Traffic Cop knocked over.

The pigs choose their methods of enforcing the law. If they think it's a good idea to catch speeding cars by running onto the road and scaring drivers, things like this will happen. If their efforts were truly concerned with road user safety, I think their methods would differ greatly. However their concern is not road safety, it's raising funds.
It's a job to provide for her family, even though it's one that many of us don't like. She's not the one who decided on her own to trap motorists, and the income derived certainly doesn't go to her. As an officer she has to obey the chain of command - blame those who ordered her.

I swear some of you guys lack a little something called sympathy, and will then be the first to moan when something happens to you and expect sympathy from everyone else.

Come now, law enforcement is vital to ensure that order is maintained, laughing at the death or maiming of law enforcement officers is not cool.

Speed kills, you know it, and I know it.
Who will be laughing when a speeding driver kills their friend, child, parents or pet ?

Well said.

Calling cops pigs = FAIL

Yup sad to see the mentality of some people in this thread.

Bare in mind for all those who think traffic fines are just a way to make money that is true but if they never had something like that in place do you really think people would only do 80 in a 60 zone? Imagine the chaos of people knowing they could drive as fast as they like. Sadly people would do 140 in a 60 zone, so while some may think it just about money i can just imagine the chaos on our roads with no fines.

I know getting loads of fines slowed me down a shyte load.

My thoughts exactly. Bad driving and unroadworthy cars with unlicensed drivers kill. Doing 100 in an 80 zone just makes the pigs money. Broken windows you say? Start with the little things- enforce the most basic laws first: Cars must be roadworthy and drivers must be licensed.

From there you can target the people that have those qualifications and are driving "too fast". Speed fines are a scam. I hold every individual from the boss to the guy with the camera responsible. To blame your actions on "those were my orders" or whatever does not cut it for me. This chick will probably get a nice fat payout from the minister for being placed in harms way...

that's exactly what broken window theory is. start with the little things. and speeding, as you point out, is a little thing. there's a general state of lawlessness in this country. it starts at the bottom, with **** like speeding... and goes all the way to the tenderpreneurs and corrupt government officials.

Ja JHatman, and that is why our country is in such a mess, because we do not have enough traffic cops around - NOT!

Start with murder and rape first, then go out and catch all those VERY BAD people that drive fast - all really only to make money for the local municipality!
70% of the JMPD traffic fines are illegal - breaking the same law they apparently uphold!

>>>>>>>>>>>>
It may shock you, but nearly 90% of speeding fines issued in South Africa are reported to have either technical or procedural irregularities, which make them invalid.

Please, people die on our roads everyday. The drunk, speeding driver is every bit as much a criminal as a thief or a hijacker. "Those VERY BAD people that drive fast" should have the book thrown at them. There is a reason that there are speed limits dude, to prevent the unnecessary deaths of innocents because a moron in a Ferrari decides to drink and then speed down a road and knock a pedestrian down to his death. (really happened)

Question is, if there was no speed limit enforcement, how many of us would drive over the speed limit? Why don't I speed? I have enough common sense not to speed in highly populated area but on the freeways the main reason why I don't speed is because I don't want to get a fine/arrested.

I do agree that running at a car flashing something akin to a gun is not the safest pass time in this country.

I drive at a speed where I feel I am in control, and where I am not a danger to those around me. That is higher in most areas than what the govt. seems to think it is. Am I reckless and drunk? WTF? Do I need to even answer that?

If the govt. had good intentions with their anti speed campaign. they could introduce something like community service instead of a fine. Even as an alternative to a fine, just to prove that it's not all about money. It it wasn't about cash, they'd police the danger areas, not the areas where people are cuising on a straight road- that is just milking people for the sake of it.

Oh, I only call Metro Cops pigs. The SAPS are the actual poor b*****ds who deal with the real s**t and don't get fat eating doughnuts and causing roadblocks.

So you don't worry about being fined or imprisoned?

Who's running into the road scaring people? You KNOW when you're being pulled off from a long way away already. If you don't notice it, you should perhaps not be on the road ;)

See above response. Flashing something akin to a gun? Come now  People get really touchy and safety-concerned when it suits them.

Just a reminder, though, I think traffic fines are just a money making racket, not at all a safety measure. But I don't wish death/misfortune on the poor official.

And who is going to monitor the beemer drivers to make sure they do their community service ?

You seem to forget, a second hand Beemer is worth *****all :D

One day i hope your child or wife or whatever gets run over and hurt badly by a speeding driver and let's see how much you are laughing then :D, i know i will be on the floor laughing my ass off if you post it on here.

Everyone in life has a job to do and that is her job. I am no fan of traffic officers either but geez to laugh at someone like this is sick.

I would like to just highlight the ludicrous hypocrisy people are showing here. Bolded above we have killadoob's wish that someone's loved one be hurt. Why is this his wish? Because he thinks it's bad that other people are laughing at cops being run over on the job. Let's note that nobody has said "I wish this happened to all cops" or "I wish cops horrible bloody deaths", it was at most a case of "got what was coming".

It's a job to provide for her family, even though it's one that many of us don't like. She's not the one who decided on her own to trap motorists, and the income derived certainly doesn't go to her. As an officer she has to obey the chain of command - blame those who ordered her.

We all have choices in life, Smoothie. If she was really opposed to running into the road with speeding cars, she shouldn't have been in that position in the first place. She was not enlisted or ordained from Above to be an officer, she chose it.
As far as income not going to her... gimme a break. Either directly via bribes, or indirectly via paid salary, she's making herself money. Are you really that naive?

Let me suggest an alternative scenario, one where pigs (and when I refer to pigs it is to Metro "police" only) actually give a **** about driver's safety; what if, what if, they simply patrolled 'high-risk' areas, lights flashing? Hmm? What if they simply provided VISIBLE presence? No, there wouldn't be a lot of income, though they'd be better positioned to deal with offenders, and their own safety would not be such a concern.

Does the law state you have to travel at x speed? If it does and you break that limit, you are guilty of breaking the law. End of story.

Firstly, you are not an expert on traffic safety,or traffic law. You do not get to pick and choose which laws you want to accept and which you think you can disregard.

Next, how much time do you really save by travelling over the speed limit, in your daily trips. So you can not reasonably claim that travelling over the speed limit saves you any appreciable time.

And you are not an expert driver, no really, you are not, just being able to steer a car at high speed does not make you an expert driver. For one, your reaction times are generally the same as that person you have just overtaken. If you were to be placed in, say a F1 racing car, you would not even manage to make it to the first turn without crashing. (Remember the TopGear episode, when the hamster tried to drive a F1 car, and he IS a trained expert driver)

Lastly, consideration, it's a two way street and you are not being part of it.

Since when are they running into the road with speeding cars? If a traffic officer ever gets hit by a car while on duty, it extremely negligent driving. Think about it. ;)

No... I think YOU need to think about it. It's a freeway. Cars doing the speed they're supposed to are still travelling over 80kmh. That's already enough speed to result in a serious injury to someone on foot. When cars injure pedestrians on the highway, it's generally the pedestrian's fault because they're not supposed to be there. It's a dangerous environment. If the pigs feel that is the best place/way to enforce the law, then they are essentially choosing to make their work high-risk. Their choice, not ours.

Yeah, it's a freeway, thus meant for cars. That's why they are not IN the road, but next to the road. Makes sense, hey?

EDIT: And where have you seen them running in the road with the cars?

No one is disputing the law itself, or the matter of breaking it. What we are discussing is the enforcement of this law.
