Traffic Fines

yip, I think you will have to collect it, as AFAIK they just have to prove that they sent a regstrd mail - just make sure it was sent within the prescribed period

Infringement was on the 24/02/2014 so I think that is within the prescribed period. Well within that period in fact.

I tried looking for a fine on the AARTO website. Nothing shows up when I use my ID number to search.

I got flashed about two weeks ago on the N7 near the GrandWest Casino. It is a 60km/hr zone and I was doing 60km/hr. I knew there was a camera there. As I was about to enter the intersection the lights changed to orange. Not enough time to stop so I went through. Got flashed as the intersection is a large one. Going at 60km/hr the lights changed to red before I reached the other end. How the hell was I supposed to avoid getting flashed? I might have sped up slightly to get through the intersection when I was already in it. So I don't even know whether I got flashed for going through a red light or for going faster than 60.

then pay ASAP to get the 50% discount

Going to do that. It's not that much anyway. More curious about the camera position. New place. Between Marlboro Drive and Woodmead Drive heading north. Picture doesnt give much away. I would guess its somewhere between the two pedestrian bridges between these two interchanges. They're sitting on the left. My guess it's one of those unmanned cameras.

AARTO isn't in effect in Cape Town so you won't see your fines on the AARTO site.

The red light cameras trap only if you cross the solid white line after the lights have changed and there's a slight delay after it's gone red before it activates. You were probably speeding when you got flashed.

This is where I got my fine, unmanned it seems, but I was over 150km/h so I received a note that a summons will be issued :-(
They got the direction wrong however but a pic of my car

150KPH o_O In the evening?

I tend to speed up around that area too.

it was in the evening and quiet and I hadnt used that stretch of road for a while, always knew it was a 120km zone

Anyways no excuses :-(

Not 120Km/h any more. They've changed it to 100Km/h a while ago. The 100 limit gets lifted just before the N1/M1/N3 interchange.

AFAIK Aarto fines have to be via registered mail and have to be issued within 40? days or they expire

Ok, so is this 40 working days? or calendar? i just received an infringement notice dated 26/05 for an offence on 11/04...

I'm assuming 40 normal days.....

"Issuing of AARTO 01, 02 an 03 infringement notices (fines).
There are only a few ways in which an infringement notice may be issued to you.
By a traffic officer at the site of the alleged infringement. (AARTO 01 or 02)
By a traffic authority who has captured an alleged infringement electronically - i.e. by camera (AARTO 03) within 40 days of the alleged infringement and serving it on you via registered mail or personally at your registered address on eNaTIS. There is NO PROVISION for personal service of AARTO 03 infringement notices at the roadside.
By a traffic authority issuing you with an infringement notice sometime after you have been issued with an AARTO 31 (unattended vehicle) notification. (AARTO 03) within 40 days of the alleged infringement and serving it on you via registered mail or by personal service at your registered address. To reiterate, there is NO PROVISION for personal service of AARTO 03 infringement notices at the roadside, including but not limited to doing so at roadblocks.

Note: In the case of a traffic officer issuing you with an infringement notice, the AARTO lifecycle comes into play immediately when the infringement notice is issued.

Note: In the case of an infringement notice that is issued after the fact, the traffic authority may issue the infringement notice up to 40 days after the alleged infringement occurred. If they take longer than 40 days to issue the infringement notice, then it is invalid and unlawful. The lifecycle of the AARTO process then comes into effect from the day on which it is delivered to the accused by registered mail, or 10 days after posting via registered mail."

I agree with you - i think its 40 calendar days.

Now next question - so what do i do...? T.b.h. it seems like a lot of effort to get them to waive the R250... which i hate to say, coz I'm a principled kinda guy. I just honestly don't have the time to run around after this...?

Sorry, what i'm really asking is what is the process to dispute this? and has anyone had success in doing it?

I would just ignore it - if the offence occurred on 11/4 and you only received notification now, that fine should be worthless, as it's far more than 40 days later - they should also know that and won't proceed

I had a Metro Office visit me at home on Tuesday night for a speeding violation on the 21st FEB. No fine, have to appear in court cos I was more than 40kms over the speed limit :-(
