Traffic Scenario

You're turning right, traffic ahead of you is all going straight. You have a green arrow therefore there's no oncoming traffic. This is at peak traffic. Waiting for everyone to go straight before you can turn right would take a few cycles.
Would you go on the oncoming lane to turn right?

As based on that picture and being in a car...no.

If there was only one car in front of me going straight then sure I would skip that car to turn right since I would have the time to do so.

Being on a bike/scooter it was never a problem in the first place because you could do it all without ever crossing the solid line.

No.

That's asking for trouble.

Also if it is clear the other side the chances are greater that someone will come speeding down the other way.

That's a taxi move right there.

This is a better example. Trying to get out of Edgemead towards the N7/N1 during morning rush hour. Single lane becomes double but 99% of the cars turn left. If you want to go straight you have to wait. Solid white line.

And yes I've done it here.

The other side (oncoming) has a red traffic light since you have a green turn right arrow.

On a more serious note, if there was an arrow to the right, there'd have been a dedicated "turn-right" lane

There is an arrow to the right and there's no dedicated turn right lane. This is not a hypothetical scenario.

on a bike you are within the law to share a lane with a car, problem is when the car wants to break the law and drive in the oncoming lane. They don't check to see if a bike is approaching. They just floor it to take the gap. I have been knocked down like that before.

Still wouldn't do it.

It's a short path from doing this to being one of the clowns that turns from a straight only lane or goes straight from a turning only lane.

Just obey the rules of the road - it's not that difficult.

And toughies if you have to wait a bit longer.

Don't know the intersection, but couldn't there be cars turning left from the road you'd be going into?

Regardless, not saying I haven't done something stupid like this in the past, but I recognize it was stupid, and try not to do things like it now.
You get used to doing stupid things. Justify it in many ways, say you're not actually breaking the law, not hurting anyone etc.

Same logic taxi drivers use, and we get upset at them when they do it.

No, that sort of behaviour is exclusively reserved for taxi drivers and moose knuckles.
