Hi,

I bought a treadmill and my partner trains 3 to 3,5 hours per session on this thing. During the use of this treadmill I cannot use the internet at all. Every time she turned it on, the adsl router would disconnect from the internet.

Doing some research I discovered a probably cause:

The RFI interference from the treadmill was being transmitted up the power wires around the house and passing the interference in to the telephone lines.

I tried to resolve this by feeding the treadmill power from a different circuit - problem persisted.

I think the solution would be to buy some kind of filter that cleans the EMI/RFI power distortions.

Does anyone know if this is a solution, and if so, where I can get such a filter?

Thanks!

Get another treadmill, and synchronise your workouts ;)

I had a similar issue with another electrical device. Turns out, all I had to do was change the channel on the wi-fi router. But I don't think that transmitted interference along the power lines, just an EMP kind of interference. Try changing the channel?

I don't think this is a wifi issue, considering the adsl router disconnects from the internet...

Ok, I see your point Sinbad. I missed that point toally...

Lesson learnt today, don't post before the morning cup'a coffee...

Have you tested the mains voltage ?, may be to much current being drawn on that circuit ??
Would be interesting to know what readings you are getting with the treadmill on and off .
A simple RF choke can be made by just rapping copper wire round the mains cord .(about 10 turns of single strand cat5)
