Trend Internet Security 2009 for home pc's

Installed Trend micro Internet security 2009 (for home pc’s and stuff) for first time XP SP2. Hanged pc. Reverted to a restore point, loaded SP3, Uninstalled all other stuff as recommended eg all the previous Norton, reg entries, files etc manually since it has such a pathetic uninstall – windows defender, Spybot – you name it. All gone. Re-installed trend 2009 – hanged pc!

First impressions = not good. Beware of this software. I’m not stupid but I gave up on this as I was wasting my time. Have no idea what it was conflicting with and certainly don’t have the time to find out! Will be installing something else tomorrow.

its most likely the Windows XP firewall conflicting with the trend firewall.I had a similar problem on Trend 2008.Its best to disable the windows firewall before installing trend.

i tried the Trend Micro Housecall about a week or two ago and it also hanged with 12mins to go. it used to be a nice programme to use back in the day.

For the record there was a conflict with a little app which runs as a service called "mirror folder" (kind of software RAID Mirror for backup purposes).

Funny they object to spybot and force you to uninstall it - but don't mention this.

Stopped service and all was fine. Question is what now? Remove Trend for something else or loose mirror folder and nice realtime backup as this is just an XP box?

I honestly have had a lot of bad experience with pc cillin..

I used to work for a company that sold the product and pc cillin can do the most bizare thing on your pc, out of the blue.

IMO i would get rid of it as fast as possible!
Install NOD32 or Bitdefender or Avast

We had one case where trend's corporate version of anti-virus screwed over a exchange server.
Worst of all was that trend was well aware of the problem one of their updates caused, however somehow forgot to mention it to us when we phone in ?!?!
Found out about the problem on some random forum where someone else was experiencing the same problem.
