Did any1 else hear Trevor Manuel talking on morninglive this morning.

I only half caught what he was saying but it seemed like he was saying broadband rates are much too high and an impediment to economic growth

As I recall Manuel didn't mention broadband or even telecoms in his speech.

Maybe the budget allocation for infrastructure includes according to recent reports that funding will go to the expansion of Sentech's broadband network and that is what he sees as action.
If that is the case then it will be a pity as he doesn't understand that something need to be done about wireline broadband costs + the cost of bandwidth and not increasing Sentech's wirless network coverage.

This was not during the budget speech but at a live breakfast broadcast on morning live

talk is cheap in sa.... especially for our politicians... pity its the walk that they all fail at.

Trevor usually walks the talk - so if this is correct - that he is paying attention then this is really good news... and if it is interfering with his fiscal policy and gub growth plans we should see severe action.... soon.

I like Trevor. He is da bomb! As I said once before, when a finance minister does his own shopping, you know he is a good man. Trevor is a good man from what I have heard and read.

mikef i also heard him speaking this morning but i was busy getting ready for work and couldnt really listen but i know he did mention broadband :D

a cpl of bln has been allocated for 'infrastructure deevlopment'. That included telecoms, was mentioned in his speach. Most of it will more than likely go to sencrap.
