uuum. Psylosibin shrooms are not toxic. There are certain types of shrooms that are hallucinogenic in small doses, but toxic (including lethal) in larger doses. In SA though, you are basically guaranteed to get Psilocybe cubensis, which is completely non-toxic. I have taken relativly large doses (10g over the course of 12 hours) and had no negative side effects.
In general, in terms of any hallucinogenic substances (LSD, shrooms) the only side-effect that I have sometimes had is quite painful stomach cramps, though this could be related to just eating badly while on the substance, and not the substance itself per-se.
all in all, have had some amazing times tripping. The only time when I have freaked out is as follows:
Went to a club in Town (Le Mix Club, Cnr Harrison & Bree) with 2 friends. Myself and one of the friends took trips, and the driver had a drink. Now at around 1am we decide to go home, and all go to the car. Somehow we managed to get lost in town at that time, and the fact that the driver started freeking out made us (the 2 tripping) freak out as well. The fact that I was completely unable to navigate also freaked me out even more (I know the area a bit better than the other 2 people, as I had worked at Standard Bank at one stage).
Eventually, once we got out of there, all was well though, but we have decided never to trip in town again, as the experience was not pleasant. Being in a place that spells danger, while tripping is not cool. Everything gets magnified 10 times, and what you would normally realise is just someone on the street looks like a hijacker/murderer looking to get you.
Seriously, shallow and stupid ppl will not do well on acid, true story!
