Is there any software available which allows you to control an iPhone or iPad remotely via the Internet?

There are lots of apps available to control PCs from the devices, but not the other way around.

I have relatives overseas who sometimes have trouble setting up some of the apps, and I would like to be able to sort this out for them if possible.

If the phone was Jailbroken then there is VNC Server you can install on the phone, apart from that I don't think you are going to have much luck at all. Even getting that going could be a challenge with port forwarding on their routers and stuff like that. I doubt the phone will be JB though as if they having issues with apps then I doubt they will have the JB either.

Thanks, also came to that conclusion.

The phones are not jailbroken as that will be asking for trouble later on.

Still need to know why Apple doesn't allow this on non-jailbroken phones. Are they afraid hackers could wreak havoc when they have access to someone's phone?

Agreed, JBing the phone is asking for more problems that it is worth for non-technical people. What sort of technical support do they need? I know people who are very non-technical and can pretty much do everything they need on the iPhone without asking for help.

Is there no Apple store where your relatives stay? If so, let them take it to the Genius Bar :)
