So for the past few weeks my ADSL connection has been crap to say the least.

Between 7AM and midnight more or less nothing works and pages need to be refreshed 100 times before displaying. Strangely at midnight (during Telkom's night surfer time) my downloads seem to run perfectly and browsing also improves dramatically.

According to my router there are lots of errors on the received and transmitted side of the wireless and network part. Not a single error on the internet side though.

Does this mean the router may be my problem?

On the router diagnostic page which I get to via the browser, it also fails to ping both the default gateway and the primary domain name server.

Can anybody shed some light?

Router is the Telkom D-link 2750u with the 1.65 firmware.

below is the tracert

a simple ping to google.co.za results in the following

Okay, some other things you can try

a) Ping your ADSL router, let this run for a bit, press CTRL-C to stop it.
- ping -t 10.0.0.2
b) Ping your WAN gateway
- First find the WAN gateway's IP by running "tracert google.co.za", take the second IP in the list (first one is your router)
- Then "ping -t WAN IP", CTRL-C to break.
c) Perform a Bit Error Test, your modem supports this. Check the manual, or scratch around in the router's web site, its called "ADSL BER Test"

If (a) results in packet loss, your equipment is to blame.
If (c) shows bit errors, well, then it could be your modem, line or equipment inside the exchange.
If (a) is fine but (b) results in packet loss, either your ISP or Telkom is to blame. If performing test (b) with a different service provider then its Telkom.

Don't know what else you can try or do. After you've ruled out everything on your side, maybe try to contact TelkomZA on this forum.

(b) is resulting in packet loss as some pings time-out

Going to try it with another ISP as I am currently with Telkom Internet. Will try a free webafrica and axxess account.

@ambroseg1

From the tracert what i can see exchange problems.
But you need to investigate more. You need to do a tracert when all is well. Midnight comes to mind. Most people sleep that time.
All latency should be below 15ms for JHB area.
CapeTown and Natal should be 45ms and below.

Did you do your tests wired with ethernet cable to router or wifi?
I certainly found differences in testing doing tests like this.

I found a really strange issue - my iPad seems to interfere with connectivity of other devices connected via wifi ... not sure why?

I also replaced the cable from the pots filter to the router - made a big difference. Maybe the lines break down over time ...?
