Don't get me wrong Vantage, but that argument is silly. Answer me this:

Would you agree that Pretoria is older than Apartheid?

why dont want to honour the people who lived in the Tshwane area ?
they are also the people wwho were paid little for the manual labour .

Meh. The divisiveness of the name-change debate is evidence that "Tshwane" is a poor choice of name.

Name changes are meant to unite, not divide. We're all in this together, bru!

By the way, the offer for beer still stands. Let me know if you're up for it.

But you seem to think that unity comes from just acknowledging one side . Africans were also involved in the construction of many things . To make it worse Mr Pretorius as much as you respect him , he has a history with us people .

Right. So pick a name which ALL sides can agree to.

I have no problem changing the name of Pretoria. But I don't like the way the ANC is just bulldozing through with it, and calling everyone who complains about their methods a racist.

If Pretoria must change, then let's have a discussion on what it must change to. Let's not draw a name out of a hat and say, Live with it.

This is an opportunity to reconcile everyone, but it is being used to divide us. We don't want that.

answer the questions and I will give you more .

Its older than aparthied but was built usinng black labour for mahala . The people who lived in that area were chased away like stray hounds . Lets not forget the history of this Presorious guy towards us africans

Are you saying there was slavery when Pretoria was built? Proof please...

The only people here were the Ndebele who moved to the area in the 1600's. They were the only people here but alas not the first. First come first served cannot possibly apply because if that were to be the case the Khoi San would have naming rights on the entire Southern part of the African continent if not the evolutionary lineage before them!

This city as it stands was built by the will of the Boers with influences from the English. That gives you naming rights. Full Stop. The ANC is rubbing a bottle not filled with a friendly wish giving genie in it. They are rubbing the bottle that Pandora pissed in! Hell's doors will be opened upon the completion of this most dastardly act and the world will realize that the history of South Africa has been brought to all but a calm plateau through the repercussions of this. There will be hell to pay and it will reverberate across the consciousness of generations. They would be wise not to **** with the name...

This argument now appears moot as the minister has withdrawn the name change and it will be retracted in the next Government Gazette.

There is no way he would have been able to keep up in any case. The fact that he was so quiet after antowans "invitation" tells you all that you need to know :):p

Than you so much.. SO MUCH

I was about to explode on him... He doesn't deserve to even post on this forum ever again.

Now, about this name change... I am in the US at the moment, studying. I'm not that on top of things currently happening back home. Whats going on with the name change, have they made it official yet. Have people complained?

Sorry for the quick post, but I am in a calculus lab and had a break to check the forums quick.

Thanx

They tried to sneak it through by publishing it in a Government Gazette but the backlash was worse than what they expected. At a news conference yesterday the relevant minister has said that the process was flawed and that the name change would be retracted in the next Gazette.

So Pretoria remains!

I'm afraid our Isede/vantage is a white guy. I've never heard a single black guy in my entire life refer to the pound/quid as bob. I'm also going to put his age range at around 50+ since they are the only age range who I've ever come across use the word bob, and it was only English guys who use it, its very old school. Nowadays everything is pound or quid.

I doubt this troll is even sympathetic to the ANC or Zulu's at all and his lack of geographical knowledge leads me to think he's from overseas. Just another attention whore trying to rev up Safricans by hijacking threads.

Actually, it's still very common to hear people in KZN refering to 20 cents and 50 cents as 2 Bob, 5 Bob etc...I have also heard 10 cents being called shilling and this is more common with black people.
