Turning telecoms on its head

Well they could have made cell phone calls cheaper and they haven't so what is so different this time ?

Last year:
"Wally Beelders, Telkom`s chief sales and marketing officer, ... says there is no reason why the SA market cannot secure all of its capacity from Telkom"

This year:
"Vodacom ISP executive director, Wally Beelders, says that he is confident that he can significantly reduce the cost of bandwidth on both the local and international portions. ...reductions up to 80%..."

So in effect admitting that Telkom is a flaming rip-off. Glad his competitive colours can now shine through at Vodacom instead of the stagnating cesspool that is Telkom.

Well they could have made cell phone calls cheaper and they haven't so what is so different this time ?

Very simple equation - Vodacom dominates the mobile telephony market, and does not need to reduce its rates in order to get more business. In the corporate market for fixed connectivity, they have no customers. The easiest way to compete is to undercut the competition.

Just a pity their customer service suck as I have not been able to get a reply to an e-mail for more than 3 weeks. Just notifications it is being passed around.
