TV cards again... For DSTV

No, you would record via the antenna that plugs directly into the TV-tuner . The software coming with the card caters for that. Video capture will be for hooking up a VCR (remember those ?) or DVD player or other devices and record from that

Ahh right. Thanks for clearing that up.

native res of the card?

Sorry what?

We broadcast in PAL in this country which as far as I know maxes out at 576p (except of course we're so backwards we still broadcast in 4:3 aspect ratio)

irrespective of the capabilities of your monitor, most tv cards display resolution maxes out at 800 x 600. your monitor then stretches this out to fit the screen with the corresponding degradation of picture quality. if a card can support a higher native resolution ie 1024 x 768, the resulting quality loss is far less. i am speaking from experience because i had one of the older cards before. broadcast resolution doesn't count for much if the end user equipment is substandard.

Hi guys,

Is there a way to get HD from your decoder onto your PC?

What kinda cable? Does that mean that the channel I will view on my PC will be the same as what's on the telly?

I think it's called an analogue cable. Or antenna cable?

It's the one that would usually plug into your TV from your decoder.

And yes you will watch what ever channel the decoder's on.

Aren't those analogue? Thought we needed digital tv-tuners?

From what I've gathered in this thread, we only need analogue TV tuners. Makes sense, because that's all that's connected to my TV.

I'm guessing the decoder handles the "digital" side of things, and the smart card etc. :)

no. tv cards cannot handle hd content. HDCP issue (copyright). also the decoding power on the tv card is nowhere near enough to decode an HD signal.
you can however plug in directly to a monitor via hdmi if your monitor has such an input.

check out www.hdcabling.co.za
used them myself to split my hd signal from my lounge to study.
