nope.
only via analogue. hd signal is a pure signal and can go from decoder to tv/monitor - nothing in between.
 
Is there no way to run the decoded signal from your DSTV, and in some way get it to display on a PC at all ?
 
Hey Im new here, is it possible then to make the SD signal HD by using codecs on the PC ? I want to watch HD on my PC...

That is basically what you're asking.
So the answer would be no.

However, your PC's screen will stretch the SD signal so you can view it fullscreen.

The difference between SD and HD is not the output you view it on (screen etc), it's in the signal's strength. HD carries a lot more data than SD does, and it is not possible to increase the data.
You can however, with the help of codecs, turn an HD signal into a SD one :)
But that is pointless.
 
Any HD PCI TV cards you would suggest with HDMI to get the HD quality on my pc from a HD-DSTV decoder? I basically want the raw "streaming" data without HDCP issues.
 
black magic intensity card only one listed (capture card) . not sure if you will get away from HDCP issues though.
 
Can someone please tell me what HD formats MultiChoice (DSTV) distributes (like frames/sec ,pixel and compression etc.)
 
How can I calculate the data throughput for a 720p50 HD DSTV channel ?

1280x720 x 50fps x 24bit = 1.1Gbps (before compression) ........... after this its H.264 / MPEG-4 which is VBC (variable bitrate compression). How do I get to the 10-15Mbps ballpark ???
 
You CANNOT stream the HD signal from the HDPVR, unless you spend CRAP loads of money..

There are no TV cards or capture cards in a decent price range that support HDCP....
Without the HDCP handshake, the HDPVR outputs in SD.
 
Let say we've got the HDCP sorted :) How does the VBC compression (H.264 / MPEG-4) work ?
