I was just wondering, is it possible to buy a new TV somewhere in the Cape Town area without having to have a valid TV licence? If so, please tell me where?

The Museum of Broadcast Communications in Chicago[2] notes that two-thirds of the countries in Europe and half of the countries in Asia and Africa use television licences to fund public television. TV licensing is rare in the Americas, largely being confined to French overseas departments and British territories

In the United Kingdom and its Crown dependencies, any household watching or recording television transmissions must purchase a television licence, every year.
The television licence fee (Swedish: TV-avgift) in Sweden funds the country's three public-service broadcasting organizations – Sveriges Television, Sveriges Radio, and Sveriges Utbildningsradio – enabling them to provide national and local radio and television services designed to educate, inform and entertain, free of commercial advertising. Part of the licence fee revenue is also used to fund Radiotjänst i Kiruna, the private corporation tasked with collecting the fee. The level of the fee is set by the Riksdag and currently (March 2009) stands at 2,076 SEK[2] (about €194 / US$263) per annum.
...I refuse to pay a TV license because of the ***** that is SABC. If they actually had proper management doing their jobs, maybe, but definitely not now.
