Back to Jhb tomorrow and going to find me that 50" plasma! :D

Don't let the salesman persuade you!

I hear they have this technique that makes you buy whatever they choose!

No stress - Grimspoon knows thanks to MyBb that nowadays plasmas don't suffer from burn-in; have a half life rating of 200,000 hours; and hardly consume more electricity than LCD. Of course though, he will see that plasma is totally superior than most higher end LCDs for TV/sport.

Well Pooky wanted to get the tv more than a week ago. What did he get? What about the LED? My in-laws bought the 40" hisense led. Picture quality is awesome even on sd dstv.

Lucky he does have MyBB to help him!

If I was new here and read half your comments, I'd be SO confused! In fact, I've followed your pro plasma comments and I can never work out what you're saying ...

Is it any plasma better than LCD?
Or high end?
No - mid end?
No - back to plasma being the ultimate ever!
Wait - you admit high end LCDs are excellent?
Another change? They can't compare?
Oh - twice the twice? No - three times?
Ok - LCD are ok again if high end?
But no LCD ever touched your plasma?

Plasma is the better image technology in general. Couldn't care less about comparing one specific LCD set to another specific plasma set (to suit your agenda).

You're obviously commenting on higher end LCDs and their overall performance which I too think is excellent

Exactly what I've maintained all along - when the budget has been there and the purpose not only SD TV/sport I have always mentioned higher end LCD, particularly Samsung 6 Series which as sn3rd said is an amazing TV

Never doubted that a high end LCD won't be good

Plasmas are superior for TV/sport and for the price you will get a better looking TV/sport picture than on some higher end LCDs!

but the effort is worth the superior picture quality over LCD. ;)

Not your high end LCD with our mid range plasmas.

Plasma is superior to LCD. An entry/mid plasma will even look better than higher end LCDs!

It is superior for anything 720p (see next bit) and below, especially for sport and SD TV

The only LCD that could come near to a plasma's performance at SD TV is a higher end LCD, usually around twice the price

The only possibility that it was better at SD TV than plasma is if it was a higher end LCD

And then they will go on telling you how the blacks on a triple-the-price LCD as as good!

A small price to pay for superior image quality/technology at that price compared to LCD, even a double the price LCD and the plasma wins

My 42C450 certainly didn't need much tweaking and picture is better than anything I've seen before, even high end LCDs. ;)

And gaming?
Yes?What - no?
Experts say no?
But wait - you say yes?
IR is a concern? NO - wait - it's not anymore?
Oh - some screens? So it's a concern?
Oh no? Not on 2010 sceens?
LOw end? Mid end? High end?

*head explodes*

Plasma in general will blow people away, because they are used to seeing older/lower range LCD

Plasmas are also fantastic for gaming because of their fast response time

A lot of people say gaming is better on plasma due to fast refresh rate, better colours and blacks, etc. Makes sense. :)

The plasma would be epic for gaming, due to faster response time and better blacks

Better black levels?
Dolby pointed out it's not true?
Oh? You decided to ignore that because it was model specific?
Oh - high end?
Blacks are better?
NO - yes? On all? Some actually?

For connecting to a PC, you will definitely want LCD because the static Start menu etc is going to give you problems with image retention/burn-in on plasma.

Didn't you earlier it didn't exist?
Now it exists?

Sadly I'm not the one buying it. My Mom is still considering it. :D

*drama queen waffle*

I just don't think you read properly. I've clarified my position way too many times to you now and always mentioned high end LCDs are decent and a lot better than older ones at TV/sport. This is getting more than ridiculous now though. I compare plasma/LCD at the same price, and mid plasma/higher end LCD at SD TV/sport specifically where mid range plasma beats many high end LCDs. Everyone who has bought plasma has done so because of the exact points I maintain, which you refuse to digest. It's as if you troll naturally out of lack of comprehension. You are still at square one, the day I started promoting plasma in this sub-forum, with the same old points you're trying to furiously make about high end LCD - we get it already! You're obviously missing the one way peace the sub-forum used to be. Proof is in the pudding of how many users buy plasma these days. Could not care less about high end LCDs matching/beating mid range plasmas at black levels. Compare apples and apples, compare price for price, compare technologies in general, compare high end LCD with high end plasma and plasma blows LCD away. The nature of console gaming is not the same as the nature of running a PC on a screen. Static images are much more of a concern for the latter. When I've mentioned no burn-in it's because the OP isn't using it as a PC monitor. I can't deny there is no IB-I using plasma as a PC screen (excessive static images). Learn to read and comprehend.

Let her have a look at the 40" Hisense LED. The clarity and picture quality is up there with the likes of Sony, lg, samsung. With extended warranty it came to about R 8500 for the 40". And before anyone goes dismissing Hisense, they are the company that makes the panels that most high end tvs' use. Also dell and acer screens.

Gah. Please call a spade a spade = it's LED-backlit LCD, not LED. :D And, it's 95% the same as LCD. Sorry to burst your bubble, mate. Brings me back to TYR's argument. "Here's my plasma, it's 720p" "Friend: Oh, that sucks, here's a full HD LCD so it must be better". Wow, the hype scale is going to go absolutely mental when people hear full HD LED[-]-backlit LCD[/-]... :D

IIRC Pooky's mom's budget was "around R5000". You simply cannot get better value than the 42" Samsung plasma. And it'll blow the Hisense or any similarly priced branded LCD/LED-backlit LCD out the water at SD TV/sport.

Btw, they may make the panels, but all the processing engines etc. in branded TVs are better.

Are you sure it won't blow away twice and three times the price high end LCDs, Postman?
Isn't that what you've always told us?

At SD TV/sport, I'm very confident it will blow away most high end LCDs, Dolby. You tend to forget the fact that plasma is better for SD TV and sport.

Have you even gone out and looked at the PS42/50C430?

Who cares though really. If the budget is there for three times the price LCD, rather just get high end plasma like Panny Viera, as they are rated best TVs in the world.

Only R7k?!

Man, that must kill EVERYTHING up to about R50k in LCD!

The guys that make plasma screens sound like the guys that make Sony Playstation 3 ; their R3,000.00 box compares to a R10,000.00 CD player, a R10,000.00 DVD player, a R20,000.00 Blu Ray player, R15,000.00 receiver and a R3,000.00 streamer - so Sony have crammed almost R60,0000.00 worth of equipment in that box.

Haven't you noticed how the real audio and videophiles use the Sony PS3 and a 720 plasma as the ultimate, reference system?

We need a thread of 'Dolby vs'

JK8 and I used to have heated arguments about cars, performances etc
IamPenguin and I used to argue about Xbox and Playstation 3
Postman and I argue about LCD and plasma.

At one point I thought the issue was me - but then reality kicked in and I know I'm always right ;) Additional to that, 2 of the 3 above have been banned ...

I think Dolby needs to cut back on the sugar.

I said the Viera is an excellent TV at a great price. No more, no less.

Nah - I'm not fighting with you ...

We're virtual buddies

Lol this is entertaining.

I have a 50 inch Full HD Samsung Plasma and a 46 inch Full HD Sony LCD

The plasma is so superior it really isnt funny.

So superior that we bought another one for the office and my bro ditched his LCD and bought the plasma after seeing mine.

Still maintain that a plasma will always be better than an LCD at the same price.
