Durban - Two police officers were disarmed while serving a protection order in Inanda before they were forced into the back of their police van, driven to a field and shot multiple times.

A male officer, who has not yet been named, sustained multiple gunshot wounds and died in the open veld near the Inanda Police Station.

His partner, a woman, also sustained several gunshot wounds to the chest and was airlifted to a Durban hospital by paramedics, where she remains in a critical condition. Her uniform and gun was stolen.

Police spokesperson Major Thulani Zwane confirmed that the officers had been serving a protection order on a man in Inanda.

He said that the two were overpowered and stripped of their weapons and forced into the back of the police vehicle.

"We understand that they were driven to this scene and then they were executed," he said.

According to a police source with knowledge of the incident, who could not be named as he is not authorised to speak to the media, the female officer had been found away from the abandoned police vehicle, stripped to her underwear.

"She had been shot several times and was in a critical condition. Her uniform had been stolen as well as her state issue firearm. The other officer was found nearby. His gun was also taken," he said.

Police forensic technicians had cordoned off the scene to protect evidence from a large crowd that had gathered.

They could be seen combing through the vehicle wearing full body protection suits.

No arrests have yet been made.

Enough now already.

Durban - A policewoman who was shot six times in an ambush attack that claimed the life of her partner has survived the night in a Durban hospital.

She sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the chest but remains in a stable condition.

Police spokesperson Major Thulani Zwane said the two officers had been serving a protection order on a man in Namibia Section in Inanda on Tuesday when they were overpowered and stripped of their firearms.

The two were then driven to an open field and shot.

The body of the male police officer, riddled with gunshot wounds, was found near the police vehicle while the critically injured officer was found further into the veld.

Police sources with knowledge of the investigation confirmed that tactical police on Tuesday night descended on the home of the man on whom the protection order was served.

According to them he had fled, but officers found items belong to the officers on his bed, including uniform clothing, handcuffs and pocket books.

An AK47 assault rifle was also found lying on the bed in and amongst the stolen police gear.

I hope she makes it. I also hope they catch the culprit and give him a broomstick walk to jail. That is a broomstick just the right length shoved deep up his a$$ so he is forced to walk on his toes. Every step must hurt like hell. Make him walk to jail.
