Johannesburg - A sweet 16 birthday party turned into a night of horror after two of four armed men who tried to hijack the party were shot dead.

Four robbers broke into a Kempton Park home at 8.30pm on Saturday and pointed firearms at the revellers.

Unbeknown to them, the man of the house was a police officer, said Gauteng Police spokesman Captain Tsekiso Mofokeng.

“The police officer managed to run into the house and get his service pistol while the suspects were busy trying to group all the visitors to one place in the yard. The officer shot two suspects dead,” Mofokeng said.

The other two escaped in a black bakkie.

One of the party-goers, the officer's friend, was injured in the shoot-out.

Mofokeng said the police found 14 gun cartridges at the scene, but no firearms were found in the possession of the dead men.

The police would not name the officer, due to safety concerns for him and his family.

Mofokeng said a manhunt was under way for the men who fled the scene.

An inquest and a case of attempted armed robbery were opened at the Kempton Park police station.

Good, though one has to ask, did he have to shoot them dead if they didn't have a firearm?

His family and guests were in immediate danger, so why not. Not to mention, those that fled could have been armed.

Quite frankly, as a voting citizen, I couldn't give a cr**. Men stormed a party and tried to hold them hostage, kill the scum.

Missed this part perhaps: Four robbers broke into a Kempton Park home at 8.30pm on Saturday and pointed firearms at the revellers

So the ones that escaped had a firearm, either way, it's great that there are two less scum bags in the world. Would have been sweeter if all four got shot.

My uncle shot a oke in the back, had no weapon what so ever and nothing happened to my uncle. The crap that the intruder has to be armed is a load of bull if you ask me. If he's on your property you should be able to kill him no questions asked.

Well done to the father. This is why I always say it is very stupid to place your firearm in your safe when you get home or just chilling at home. These things happen in a blink of an eye even when least expected.

Any reasonable man would have done the same, so no further questions or investigations will be done going forward.

They were four armed men so yes it was justified to protect all the guests and shoot them.

Two less scum in this world , pity the other two got away .
Good deterrent for other scumbags .

Yes, Why would you want them to be alive and a tax burden. Stops them from using one the next time. Now there is no next time.

This is just it.

There is this habit of people not defending themselves and it makes them easy targets. Thus the reason robbers now hit easy targets by doing home invasions. The more we fight back, the harder it gets for them and they will move onto something else. We need to make a stand and make our homes safer by fighting back more and more.

They don't have to be armed, they just need to threaten your or someone else's life.

So when your kid strolls onto your neighbours' lawn he can shoot him/her, no questions asked. :)
