Well i'm probably wrong about where the boot record is, the sure fire way to find out is unplug D drive and see if the computer still boots.
If it boots without D drive then your safe to "clean" the disk however you can. I'd get rid of that small 100mb partition too as it was part of the old windows setup.

A ubuntu live cd with gparted should do the trick if you still can't use the diskpart clean command.

Think it may be on that efi partition?
Will disconnect d drive.

Sigh this is why want a case with hotswap cages.

Yep without drive D doesnt want to boot but now cant install on ssd!
Will have to go through process.

Did you already try deleting the partition via the windows cd on boot?
Nope but not a major issue as Ive put it in a external enclosure. Issue is that ssd not the boot. And cant install windows 7 as its a gp/gt etc partition on ssd.
Now to format it on my SO's pc and then install win 7 and then upgrade to win 10. And then clean install onto ssd ☺

I've had issues with windows installation on my ssd failing when i had more than one drive installed so i usualy unplug everything else.

If installation still won't accept it then press shift f10 at the drive selection windows during installation to get to the command prompt then use diskpart to clean it.

Thanks simply cleaned it via external enclosure.
Now busy activating win 7 but automated system looks for 6 or 7 digits while mine has 5 digits per block.
My internet connection giving hassles via network. Will update drivers and then upgrade to win 10.

All done. Updated network card driver sorted out internet and took care of MS activation☺.

Ssd now the boot disk but the 450mb recovery and 100mb efi partition partitions now on the ssd?

My other pc ssd just has boot disk.
That was upgraded from win 8.1 pro to a win 10 clean install

Ah well just happy ssd my boot disk. Must test if others unplugged if it still boots but fine for now. Can wait.

@ODTech any idea why two partitions on ssd? Upgraded from win 7 pro. Activated via internet.

Its a 100mb and 450 mb partition. Rest of ssd space is c drive.

These were two on d drive originally which i deleted to my knowledge. An efi partition and recovery partition.

The 100mb partition for windows 7 was for boot and recovery information, under windows 10 i assume the 450 is for the efi as you said. I'd leave both in place, they don't take that much space up anyway.

Fine just puzzled as my win 8.1 to win 10 ssd hasnt got this on it.
