Stellenbosch - A red piece of wreckage is all that remained of the business magnate Johann Rupert's 1995-Ferrari F50 after his son crashed it into the Helshoogte Pass.
The car is worth between R4m and R5m and is one of only 349 in the world. It had been part of Ferrari snr's Franschhoek Car Museum.
Anton Rupert, 22, wanted to show a friend how fast and powerful the car was. He apparently lost control of the car while going around a bend on the Helshoogte Pass between Franschhoek and Stellenbosch.
The accident happened just before the wine farm estate Tokara.
Friends of the family confirmed that Anton was behind the wheel. He was not injured. He is Johann and Gaynor Rupert's only son. They also have two daughters.
