Stellenbosch - A red piece of wreckage is all that remained of the business magnate Johann Rupert's 1995-Ferrari F50 after his son crashed it into the Helshoogte Pass.

The car is worth between R4m and R5m and is one of only 349 in the world. It had been part of Ferrari snr's Franschhoek Car Museum.

Anton Rupert, 22, wanted to show a friend how fast and powerful the car was. He apparently lost control of the car while going around a bend on the Helshoogte Pass between Franschhoek and Stellenbosch.

The accident happened just before the wine farm estate Tokara.

Friends of the family confirmed that Anton was behind the wheel. He was not injured. He is Johann and Gaynor Rupert's only son. They also have two daughters.

Poor kid, daddy dearest will have to downgrade him to slightly cheaper porches til he learns how to drive fast properly ;)

The value of the car is immaterial for the Ruperts but I wonder how dad would be feeling this morning if his son had perished in the crash? Probably like the poorest man on earth...

ouch, at the end of the day he is still alive but the dad is going to be keeping this in the back of his mind for the rest of his life, 'that little bastard crashed my Ferrari'

sorry just doesn't quite do it you know.

I'd disown the kid... turn him into a tractor driver... writing off his F50!?

hahahaha...

This happens way to often. But I'll be swallowing my words what I write off a Aston DBS someday ;)

Come to think of it, a young guy (like 19 or 20 I think) wrote off his dad's 575M in Adelaide this week. Lost control of the beast at 160kph and straight into one of those big lampposts.... went straight through the engine and stopped at the gearbox.
The thread is here somewhere.
