i finally decided to give up vm and bought myself a new mtn sim card
and R10 airtime.after loading a 10mb data bundle - i tested the
connection and then checked my balance. it said 9mb left!

so what it means is that mtn gave me only 9mb for R10.

that doesnt sound fair. does it.

You sure you didn't use up a MB on testing the connection?

Give it a few minutes otherwise and check again.. sometimes the balance appears to drop but then it jumps back again..

Nope, don't need a contract. Yes you can simply load a voucher and add a bundle [in that sequence though, first voucher then the bundle is created from your available airtime]

I also had a data balance problem with mtn.just turn off your phone, let your sim register again and whatever you are owed is given back to you.it also happens when you check airtime balance when you use pre paid.

When you connect to the internet MTN takes +-1MB from your account and returns the balance when you disconnect. It takes it in 1MB chunks untill you have notheing left. You can also check and find you have nothing left and still be connected. This is the last of your 1MB.
