Uber driver arrested during trip for allegedly using fake documents

Curiously, the customer told MyBroadband he had received a notice that Uber had tried contacting him but was unsuccessful. This was despite providing an alternative contact number to reach him on.

According to the customer, they haven’t had any missed calls. However, it is possible that network issues could be to blame.

I know some companies have a standard outbound call process in place where you try to phone at least twice, using all available contact numbers, at a set time period apart(four hours later, for example, not straight after the other and then magically give up).Then, if you can't reach them, you email them. There are also standard SMS templates available.

Not to mention that this is an escalated case.

So, how does one apply Occam's Razor here? I'm a bit dumb.
 
Uber are money grubbing scum. Useless support. First hand experience.

They cut corners to make margin... those corners are almost exclusively in their support department. I swear there is one guy out there named Uber who runs the entire thing.

He was not legit, I have no idea what Uber is rambling on about, since when is it allowed for a driver to use someone else's driver's license? The drivers profile was used by somebody else and Uber is clearly not bothered about holding the driver accountable.

The ride-hailing customer explained that the driver produced a temporary driver’s licence when the police requested, but the details didn’t match his own.

Instead, the details on the temporary licence pertained to the vehicle’s owner. The police asked him to provide the ID number quoted on the licence, but he couldn’t.

It happens more often on the UberEats side but doesn't seem to bother most people.
 
A few years ago I got an Uber, drivers name and profile picture clearly indicated a man, the car arrived, I verified the type, color and licence, it matched the drivers profile, so I got in the car. There was a lady behind the wheel. I double checked with them that they were Mark* and they said yes. This was long before any of the current dodgy Uber happenings, so I let it slide, but people using someone else's account has been an issue for a long time, and it seems Uber either doesn't really care to stop it, or can't stop it.

Maybe too many people are "letting it slide"? It would be difficult to put the blame solely on Uber if people don't report the transgressions.

I think that's where the frustration exists and the reason for such stories. We don't expect Uber to take such concerns lightly as they're seen and market themselves as the premium, affordable option for rides where security is of utmost importance.
 
I had an Uber experience where we got caught in a roadblock, the entire Uber, including myself, was searched. I wouldn't have been shocked if the driver had been arrested and left me on the side of the road.

Doubt they can search you nor the car without a warrant.

100% with the exception of anti-crime initiatives. But by proper it's pretty obvious compared to the regular SAPS/Metro gatherings.
 
Uber standards are terrible these days. I recently had a driver that looked like he never even knew how to drive. We drove 30-40km p/h all the way, couldn't change gears properly and honestly think I could of done a better job if I was a case of beers in. Also the quality of the vehicles has deteriorated a lot over the past couple of years.
