Uber Eats vs Mr D Food - 2019 pricing comparison

The two biggest food delivery platforms in South Africa are Uber Eats and Mr D Food, both of which offer a centralised interface to order food from a wide variety of restaurants with minimal delivery costs and service fees.

Mr D Food and Uber Eats include hundreds of restaurants and offer collection and delivery options, although their fee structures are slightly different.

Menu pricing on the apps are set by the restaurant , so they probably adding in the percentage MR D and Uber charge them to the menu prices.
Maybe add in a column to state the cost of same Items in store and can see who charges and who absorbs this cost.

I'll happily pay slightly more for UberEats.

- No tip required until I've received the service and can give an appropriate amount
- Much more accurate delivery tracking
- More stable app
- Faster delivery from my experience
- When stuff goes wrong, issues are dealt with quickly. Mr D support wasn't able to even call the driver last time I had an issue. Either he went totally AWOL or their systems and security are garbage.

Unfortunately, Mr D has more restaurant options for my location.

I've had the opposite problem. Ordered via Uber Eats and the restaurant cancelled the order. Ordered again and it was cancelled again. Tried placing the order via Mr D, and received a call from their call centre that one of the items I was trying to order was out of stock and would I like to substitute it for something else.

Seems the restaurant has no way of communicating problems to Uber Eats and the customer, but Mr D does.

Used to use UberEats a few times a week.. but they've recently uncreased the delivery charge by 50% to R15 ... for basically anything a reasonable distance from the restaurant.

A KFC streetwise 2 which normally costs 32.90 will now set you back 49.90...50% extra which is ridiculous... and that excludes the tip you may want to give!

No thanks.

Uninstalled Uber Eats and am back with Mr D.

Uber Eats often never even picks up the food resulting in a long wait only for the order to be cancelled, when they did they either got lost or left items at the restaurant. Uber couldn't care less and won't see my money again.

There's a restaurant 500m away from me and Uber charge etc because it's far away. I mean really...

I prefer Mr. D. Only thing missing is scheduled orders.

Keep both though - the one with the best voucher codes win on the day :p

Funniest thing ever...while ago I ordered a meal via UberEats. Followed the dot on the map it was coming towards my place at a snail's pace...the "dot" came around the corner...ON FOOT! Turns out the guy ran out of petrol a few hundred meters from my place. Gave him a tip for some petrol :)

That is something of a deal-breaker then. Fortunately hasn't ever been an issue for me in PE.

Also, the delivery fees being thrown around in this thread aren't what I've encountered in PE. So you big city folks look to be getting a worse experience.

Same reasons why I choose UberEats over MrD

I do feel for those fukcers..v often desperate immigrants with no other choice to earn a honest buck. Instead of Uber reducing their already handsome capital and profit by giving the driver who is "working for them" ..they load us with the guilt of making up for their miserable delivery portion.

And we won't start on the state of some of the delivery "motorbikes" - beggars belief.. nothing short of unroadworthy.

Thinking of it this way: I have to get in my car, drive 7km, buy the food, wait, then drive another 7km back to my house, all wasting about an hour of my time, to save R15, by spending R50 wear and tear and petrol.

It just doesn't make sense not to use Uber Eats or Mr D.

My experience was the complete opposite. There was a messup with our order. The restaurant was happy to correct the issue but we couldn't get a refund nor arrange a re-order through Uber Eats. Uber Eats took over an hour to revert to me and basically washed their hands saying "they only provide the app service". There was no way for the restaurant to get hold of the Uber nor for us to re-order.

But its not R15... Its R15 plus 10% sometimes 20%
So for a couple of meals regularly spending R200 thats R65... All for 10 mins back and forth.

And I must say my hit rate is about 1/3 of the time it takes ages, guy goes missing etc... Most of the time i dont mind waiting too much.
