Uber problems in South Africa

Not sure why Uber charges users when the drivers cancelling?

Anyway - I've experienced one or two of those where they give an estimate and take longer, sometimes even showing the vehicle in viewing distance, but its not there.

Each time I've logged a ticket via the app and been refunded.

taxify....

no inflated fees during busy periods

I've been using Uber exclusively since September. I had sold my vehicle with the intention of buying a new one. I still haven't gotten around to doing this because Uber has been great. Sure I have had a handful of issues, each time I logged a complaint on the app and have been credited almost immediately. For the boatload of trips I have done, and the small number of issues, I am more than happy with their service. Longest wait I have had for a vehicle has been 15 minutes. Generally though, it's never more than 5 minutes.

I've had a few occasions where the driver cancels when they are close, presumably because they can't find the address (even if dropped of there by another Uber driver) and without trying to contact me to clarify. I think Uber should start deducting rating points from drivers that cancel frequently as it will force them to at least put in some effort to find you.

I had a driver accept the ride then call me to ask how far I'm travelling and when the fare wasn't big enough, he asked me to cancel the ride :erm:

Otherwise no complaints really.

I wonder if cancellations aren't because a more profitable trip came up?

Been using Uber extensively over the last two months due to rupturing my Achilles tendon. No issues at all, even on short distances e.g. 1km to the shop. Cannot praise their service enough.

Also had this once. Reported the trip on Uber app and before my replacement ride arrived I had a R100 voucher. So in my experience even when I've had an issue, they do their best to resolve it ASAP.

Exactly, Uber customer support is phenomenal!

I don't like the new system charging you for the trip before it's completed.

I much preferred the charge being a combination of actual distance and actual time spent on trip

Goes both ways...incentivises the driver to not dawdle. The prices I see now are a bit lower than I've paid previously for the same trip.

Going to be interesting with the traffic going mal tomorrow with schools opening...if anyone uses an Uber and gets stuck in traffic, let us know how that initial payment matches the actual ride.

I'm aware it can save money, not sure why it bothers me...

Maybe I'm just old :P

I was under the impression the time shown was an ETA. Estimated Time of Arrival. Not a promise.
The app doesn't specifically say "Uber promises your drive will be there in 3 mins"

People need to find a hobby other than complaining about dumb ****.

Before you book your Uber you're expecting it there in 5mins. Suddenly when you book it becomes 10 mins which is the issue

Requested pick up from OR Tambo on 8th December and then received calls from 4 different drivers, still have not been picked up, had to use airport taxi as last resort

Have had a few issues with drivers accepting and then seeming to go in the opposite direction, seems like they are intentionally doing it for a quick cancellation fee. Only happened twice though, have used in Durban and Cape Town and 99% of the trips have been great.
