Uber problems in South Africa

All the ones taxify trips ive done have been in new cars, just like uber! Never knew they used old cars too??

As far as I know, there's nothing stopping a driver from working for both at the same time - there may be some crossover.

Met a driver that uses both. He prefers Uber since there is more users, Taxify is more for people whose cars don't meet Uber's standards.

Had all these issues, especially over the holiday period.

What I found out, with regards to the ETA, is that a driver can accept a trip while he's busy with another trip. He might even drive past the pick-up point to drop the current rider, that's why you see him go past the pick-up point. This totally screws up the ETA.

Another issue I had was that some drivers absolutely refused to go to very busy places, where traffic was congested - they outright cancelled the trip.

I'm not understanding all the comments where people are saying this is a quick way for an Uber driver to make money; by accepting a trip and then cancelling it.

While you do get billed, it is so easy to report the trip and receive a refund, often before you have even reached your destination.

Is it perhaps a case of people being unfamiliar with the application and not knowing how to report a trip, or are they afraid of repercussions from Uber or the drivers?

Didn't Uber change something a while ago? Along the lines of giving free vehicles to previously disadvantaged, and maintaining vehicles at no cost to the driver.

There was an outcry by existing Uber drivers because they had bought their own cars.

It's possible Uber now have too many available drivers.

Uber used to allow the driver to contact the rider for free using the app but they changed that last year and since then drivers have been reluctant to contact riders because they have to use their own airtime. Yes, Uber does re-reimburse drivers with R20 airtime each week but that's not nearly enough to compensate for all the calls that need to be made. This is one of the main reasons why cancellations are an issue.
