Ubiquiti signal

I recently changed from a Mikrotik setup to a Unifi setup. Mainly because I like the Ubiquiti kit and the awesome stats from the controller.

My town house is your standard with bedrooms upstairs and lounge, kitchen and garage at the bottom. Roughly 140 square metres.

So I got a USG, Poe switch , cloud key and 2 x AC Lites. The AP's are ceiling mounted, 1 on each floor. What are people's dBm strength on their clients ? On 5ghz if I'm in the same room it's anywhere from -50 to -60 (depending on how close to the AP you are) and then through a wall it will be -65 to -80. If I run a bandwidth test I get decent speed using the Unifi app on my phone. Is this the general stats for the AC Lite, or would I get better results from an AC LR? .
 
From my experience the ceiling mounted ap's ( looks like a ufo) do have crap signal
i am busy replacing mine with mesh units which has far better signal strength and throughout put
 
I have 4x AC-LR's in my house; not because the house is huge but the walls are incredibly dense (like me) with very poor signal penetration.

The same AC-LR gave excellent range in an open plan office (call centre with 240 agents so it was a huge floor space) when tested.
 
I have an AC-Lite in the living room. Sitting in the living room I get full line speed (200mbs) on my iPhone but in my bedroom 10m away it drops to about 60mbs.
 
My wireless printer in the next room 99% (-46 dBm) on 2.4ghz
Apple TV right next to it gets 87% (-56 dBm) on 5ghz
Sonoff device at main gate (25m away)gets 37% (-76 dBm) on 2.4ghz

I only pick up the 5ghz signal in the room, if I move out it jumps to 2.4ghz.

Thanks. What channels and tx power are you using ? Im using the least congested being channel 1 on 2.4 and 44 on 5. Using a WiFi analyzer this seems to be the best
 
I have a relatively small flat, but have 800Mbps throughput on all my devices that support it.
Try playing around with the channel and strength. If you have more than one AP and you're cranking them both at full strength it may cause issues.

We have 17 APs at work, supporting 230 people and don't have any issues.

Reminds me, there should be a channel scanner in the Ubiquiti controller.

Thanks. I also get a high connection speed as indicated. But that's not actual throughput
