My network looks like this:

(MacBookPro 192.168.0.4 + Android HTC 192.168.0.3) =Wireless connection=>SMC Router 192.168.0.2 =Wired connection=>eth0 Ubuntu 11.04 192.168.0.1 <= Cell C unrestricted APN

Sharing works just fine. I used Firestarter to configure iptables for this. BUT when trying to access the Ubuntu web service via the public IP on a machine outside of this network, I get no connection. I have told firestarter to allow all port 80 connections.

Any ideas?

That unrestricted APN.. does that allow incoming connections? I know CellC blocks them by default.

Thanks, yes, it works. If I connect my Mac directly to the Cell C usb, I can access its MAMP server quite comfortably from outside. Cell C is currently testing the unrestricted so I am pretty sure that the dongle is not at fault.

Everyone who wants to shout "DUH!" at the same time, please point at me when doing so. Turns out, the small difference was not changing the APN on the Ubuntu machine. Aaargh!

Sorry for wasting your time...
