ubuntu boot fail, and windows 10 no boot

strange but i was using vmware with ubuntu but the vmwaretools was giving me error even opentools was not working properly and then i decided i need to fix this by installing ubuntu. And this is where the story ended.
you could
-boot linux,
-mount the win partitions,
-copy your data,
-install rufus
-download/create win10 iso,
-fix bios
-reinstall win10 wiping all the parts
-copy your data back
-get another box to fck around on,
-like running esxi natively for your vms

i Do alot of repair and software repairs on android and consoles and automotive applications. So windows was perfect for me, but i got into iPhone software repairs.and i was forced to use mac or linux as this is the perfect environment for these type of things. So vmware was giving me errors on the work and i decided after the vmwaretools failed to work to install ubuntu.

lol/// no man i need my windows boot fixed as i have great software that just works and it took alot of time and effort to prep and to make all drivers work for all phone chipsets.I cant do that again.i was on xda for a long time fixing stuff and making it work

you could still redo your win10 install, fix bios and then do dual boot, soumds like you need direct hardware access in to these devices in linux anyway, vm hardware passthrough is so-so, it still needs to go via windows (if you were using something like virtualbox/vmware workstation (or whatever it's called these days)

that is so true this is why iopted to install ubuntu.Homebrew in ubuntu works great but not in vmware. its a mess up i was not pleased with this.

do you have the s/w? recent backups? if not, then recovering the bootloader is your future, i cant recall how the boot partition is invoked on windows, it's been a while, surely it can be fixed in grub? read this

update: i reconfigure bios to original and then all hell broke loose. blue screen say ubuntu failed boot and no matter what the rescue disk do i get errors on everything. reinstall grub gave errors and cant be done.mbr could not be repaired and even uefi could not be read ..alot of errors on everything.

So i switched back to lagacy then repaired grub and here i am on mybroadband again boot ubuntu via grub, which now only has one entry ubuntu. So what i am gonna do now is create a bootable windows 10 and install that. But before that i am gonna put bios in uefi mode. then install windows and then after that gonna create live cd and install that and see if everything gonna work

Good luck.

I do not miss those days of fecking around with all that shite - nowadays I just leave my computers be, let them run updates and have backups on my NAS.

Oh, and probably better to get a cheap 2nd hand laptop to run Linux on to avoid issues with your prod machine.

A while back I used some partition utility (paid but had trial version) to change Win boot mode from legacy to UEFI.

You could probably try that with diskpart and convert gpt but I don't think that will work.

No i dont remember ever doing that.I would like to try that when my windows is working..lol
Could be your problem. Need to make sure it's disabled, before creating a dual boot setup. No way of fixing this after the fact.

EDIT: Some more info: LINK
Seems this could be it. If you created a separate partition for Ubuntu, this might not have been an issue.

You can do this for free, from command prompt. But yeah, wouldn't have fixed the issue.

Ah, dual booting, that's one way to make you go mad.

Use a VM man, best of both worlds.

this is what i am gonna do
1- create uefi boot windows 10 on one usb
2- createl ive cd on another
3- change legacy in bios to uefi
4- convert the mbr to gpt
proceed to install windows, when its done will move to livec for ubuntu
I think this will solve all the hassle but i will be left with a windows.old folder...
UBUNTU you suck for now

I will then take my other laptop and install ubuntu on as suggested by a forum member.
wish me luck bitches
