I've come across this problem now on a few different installations of Ubuntu with Firefox. When I go to right click on a link (usually to open in a new tab), most of the time the right click context menu does not appear, but a random action takes place based on the right click menu, as if it opened and got clicked at random. It is very frustrating... so much so that I can't use Firefox.

I am going to try a different browser for a while and see if it does it... meanwhile you can read more about it here....

I get the same problems in Windows XP since upgrading to FireFox V3.0.1. I thought it might have been a local problem on my pc so am semi relieved to see others are experiencing similar issues with FF.

If you want to open a link in a new tab, middle click on the link.

It is true, FF is not the shining beacon of Open Source it once was, and somewhere they fumbled the ball a bit.

The only reason I stay with FF is because of their amazing plug-in system. Adblock, Stumble-Upon, FTP client, etc.
No other browser is so feature rich, unfortunately.

I haven't noticed this problem in Firefox but I have in Terminal (also in Ubuntu) - a right-click often triggers the top action (which is to open a new terminal window).

I assumed it was some X-windows convention, and the style to use with it would be to click and hold the RMB, then move to the option and release the RMB. Not a very good convention, if this really is by design. I haven't asked.

I've never had that problem with Firefox. Being in 2000,XP,Vista and several Linux distributions.

+1. Why would you want to use anything other than FF? FFS

Now i'm using the new version of Avant Browser and i think it's really good. One issue is if Avant Browser is closed improperly, all open web pages are saved and will be automatically reopened at next startup. I got from here: Avant Browser

Maybe a mouse driver issue? Maybe the mouse is not operating entirely correctly?
Does this only happen in FF, or also other apps when you right-click?
