Hi,

Anyone have some words of wisdom please? I'm desperately trying to recover from a failed dist-upgrade, there's a few posts about this (without resolution) on the Ubuntu forums, and frankly, the package Ubuntu put together is corrupt :(

Code:
root@netsonic:/var/cache/apt/archives# wget ftp://ftp.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/l/linux/linux-image-2.6.27-14-server_2.6.27-14.41_amd64.deb
--2009-09-16 13:34:26--  ftp://ftp.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/l/linux/linux-image-2.6.27-14-server_2.6.27-14.41_amd64.deb
           => `linux-image-2.6.27-14-server_2.6.27-14.41_amd64.deb'

It does not always mean the package is corrupt. The download could have gotten corrupted.

Rule of thumb for most OS's: When you upgrade, do a clean install.

If you absolutely in no way can do that, then download the alternate installer disk from Ubuntu instead of ising the auto upgrade so you can check the md5sums on the disc and know that the download was perfect, then upgrade from the disc.

+1 with the exception of rolling release distros.
