Ubuntu Light: Instant-on Ubuntu

Is ubuntu easy to use ? Last version of linux/unix i tried , i had to mount my cd rom in a shell ..... Needless to say it was uninstalled with great haste , something that is windows like , idiot proof and free is always great and helpful . If it is more or less like windows i am willing to give it a try , how is it when it comes to online gaming and drivers ?
 
well done to canonical. they really seem to be pioneering in the os space and the overall ui in lucid is really a step up imo.

Easy as pie :) I use it as my main work pc. Stick the cd in, it is even simpler than windows to install these days. No need for drivers as long as your hardware is compatible. Even then its pretty simple :) Online gaming is still not great, maybe oneday..

Well, you'll need to wait 5 YEARS for the next version of Windows. That said, I would also like to have this now already. I love the idea of a quick-on system just to check one or 2 things on the Internet before I go out or leave for work etc.
 
Paul are you serious ? If that is the case then point me to the easiest Version ! Where can i find a list of what is and what is not compatible ? If it only the latest brand new stuff , then i should be safe, the pc in question is about 6 years old . How is it on security ? Will simple basic games like WOW and maybe CS:S work with it ? IF so i might as well get it done on the home pc's as well .

P.S. You ARE paying for your copy of Windows, right? You're not just complaining about a free OS because you got your Windows "free" too?

Nope i was not being sarcastic , just asking . I know there have sometime been issues with gaming , especially drivers for graphic cards , i was just curiuos to know how far has linux/unix progressed. I have a legal copy of windows xp , but as we all know windows usually ships with loads of bugs and it needs of lot of hots fixes . Security issues are always a problem . I know linux/unix is open-source so that means everyone can change and fix any problems that occur . I recall long long time ago some games made drivers for both windows and unix/linux . Hence my question.

I would like to test it for free , if i cant cope with it or understand it , having to pay R1000 for something i cant use seems a waste . Since it is free , and if it is easy to use , then why not try it ?

Thank you for the info and the versions and the LIVE CD i will try it as soon as i can .
