Ubuntu Ocelot - Big hope

Mark gave an excellent talk at Design Indaba last month. I'm very impressed with what Ubuntu is doing.
 
Have there been any preview vids? Also, when they say 3d do they just mean compiz?

I haven't been following things at all.
 
Am I the only one who thinks Mark looks exceptionally creepy in this photo? He just needs the kiddy fiddler glasses to complete the look. #hater

Mainly using Ubuntu for servers without the GUI - in fact one of my favourite things about it is how easy it is to select a minimal or virtual server install and just enable the services you need.

Ties in a bit with the previous part - in the OSS world there seems to be 3 favourite services for everything. Postfix vs Sendmail, vi vs emacs, nginx vs Apache, GNOME vs KDE. I like how Ubuntu has focussed on a narrowed subset of services (see the Server Guide) and provided nice support and documentation for these out of the box.

While this might be flamebait, and there is always someone who will be offended when their favourite tool is left out, I do hope they continue this trend. I would rather learn a new tool if it means the services supported by Ubuntu is more stable, secure and user friendly.

But then again, I've been using MacOSX for years now so perhaps i've just become used to having no choice :-)

Nah, just funny to finally see him losing some hair! :D
But he's a great guy, nothing like that other wierdo, Steve Jobs! :p

Get a console, unless by gaming you mean PC specific games, then you would have to hope for a Mac port - and that might actually become a viable option for all PC games in the future :)
 
While I'm looking to test out the final release of Natty, realistically, I think they implemented some big changes. Which I'm guessing Ocelot will be there to fix anything that broke in Natty. Which hopefully is not much...

But I'm definately looking forward to seeing something different (but not looking forward to have to re-customize things again, which is more an issue since I dont have the time to spend doing it these days)
 
Don't like Unity and I'm not looking forward to the scheet Wayland is gonna cause in the futures a few releases down the line.
 
Mark looks like a used car salesman in that pic, but he can afford a few Bugatti Veyrons. Respect. :)
 
I have been out of Linux for quite a while now. I have Ubuntu on my netbook, but could not get around to using it, since most of my work shifted back to Linux. Maybe it's time to upgrade to a newer version. Especially since (if I'm not mistaken), there is no longer a netbook-specific version and us netbookers get the same Linux as the rest of you. :)
