Ubuntu Phone installation images and source code available this week

I wonder if someone will port Ubuntu Phone to Moto RAZR. Once WhatsApp becomes available officially on Ubuntu phone then I might give it a shot

I think our locked bootloader may hinder that...

I considering getting this phone. Any idea how Vodacon and MTN feel about this phone?

Jannie said Vodacom would certainly not dismiss a Ubuntu powered phone...but he could not say for sure obviously as details are very sketchy still. Cononical have not said what markets they are planning on targeting either...so who knows...maybe Canonical not interested in us anyways :-) Time will tell.

Just pondering while chillaxing in the shower. Maybe Canonical should partner with a OEM and do like a half decent at least Ubuntu phone, kinda how Vodafone will brand some phones and sell it under the Vodafone brand and sell it as cheap as possible here:

https://shop.canonical.com/

This way people that want to play with it can buy a cheapie and see if they like the OS without having to spend gazillions of dolahs?

Also handy to get bigger market penetration and get the OS out there ... specially markets they are not planning on tackling initially.

Is this going to be ported to other phones? Was one of the main reasons I chose the S3 over waiting for the iPhone 5

Actually, since they're using mostly Android drivers, it's supposed to be able to run on any Android phone without too much hassle. So it'll probably be kinda like installing CM or something once it's customised for a particular handset.

What I'm really looking forward to is proper convergence. I want to dock my phone and have a proper PC experience, with usable (non-mobile centric) apps like Open Office and even virtualisation available. I want the phone to replace my laptop and this is the only thing going that really looks like finally being able to do that. (as soon as the hardware catches up fully. Not long now)

Agree completely. This is what interests me as well.
