Ubuntu spawns new generation

I feel sorry for people who are going to be embracing Ubuntu Jaunty, as it stands now, the Intel 965 (X3100) graphics drivers are very unstable atm, this has been an issue since Gutsy.

I think it extends out of Ubuntu though, other distros are effected too.

I'm using on Ubuntu at work on Intel hardware, it runs quite slow even with special graphics off. Other than that I can do more with Linux than I could do with windows concerning our network and all that.

Linux mint is kind of nice to use but the last time I used it I could not set the resolution to 1280/1024 and it got stuck at 800/600 but it was fun using it never the less and like the themes you can get for Mint.

What bothers me is that you have to decide what you are going to do on the computer BEFORE you install the OS. This is not like windows where you can worry about what apps you install AFTER you loaded the OS.

Perhaps Ubuntu should rather focus on easier binary compatibility or even better yet, flawless execution of Win32 and x64 binaries.

What is these trojans and virii you are talking about? I have never come accross them. The problem with linux is [-]it does not run anything[/-] it is more secure.

I think I should also load linux on my work notebook, is there a linux program capable of running a exchange(outlook/entourage) client(So I will still be able to download my mail)

Thanks, now can you fix linux also? Everyone knows the world only runs windows programs and that they are the only ones worth running :p

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. ;)

Seriously, though, if the programs you want to use in Linux were OSS and used open standards, it'd have been ported by now. If it hasn't, look for an alternative. If you can't find an alternative, (and this is the important bit) stick with windows.

I love Linux, OSS and the in-control feeling I have in Linux. However, because I need Solidworks for my work, and I refuse to use Wine, I dual-boot. But expecting/wanting Windows programs to run in Linux is absurd, IMO.

The real answer is ReactOS - I have donated a couple of $ to their project and I hope they get it going.

Look at Evolution on Ubuntu or K ontact on Kubuntu.

In just the few years since it was released, Ubuntu Linux has inspired tens of new Linux distributions. Here we look at five of the best.

Interesting article. After all the talk here about the need for consolidation in the Linux space, we get more fragmentation with even more bewildering choices for users.
