Ubuntu vs. Vista

Their marketing tactics are ugly. Forcing users to purchase windows with their pc's

I agree with this. Seeing as I now use Linux 98% of the time I cant help wondering how much less my new notebook would have cost had it not come with Vista preinstalled. I would have been quite happy with buying a clean slate, installing Linux then just installing my old XP disk into a VirtualBox in case I had to do something windowsey.

Microsoft is very clearly a monopoly. They have PC manufacturers in some sort of a grip. You cannot buy a laptop or desktop PC (i.e. not one assembled from components) without Microsoft Windoze installed. Sure you can wipe it out and install Ubuntu, but you still will have purchased Windows and paid Microsoft for an OEM licence that you didn't want. Remember, Microsoft is all about Money. In essence, you were FORCED to pay for Windows against your will when you tried to buy hardware.

Apart from the paying issue, I have a problem with an operating system that spies on me on behalf of Microsoft. So I will never buy Vista. ever.
