Yes, they should switch Ubuntu for Kubuntu as the default release.

Lets KDE first fix itself first ...

I was running Kubuntu during 7.x and loved it - switched from Ubuntu 5.x/6.x

Then during 8.x KDE was just lagging - 8.04 was still OK, but 8.10 was horrid. Come 9.04 and everything broke.

Sticking to GNOME till KDE can sort itself out.

Not sure about this... AFAIK anything is an improvement on Vista...

Linux is still years away from being able to be competition to Windows.

Which cave number did you put on your xICA stuff... Everyone is entitled to his/her opinion... I guess...
I do believe that Ubuntu was considered a mature platform more than a year ago...

I have two laptops at the mo, a Core Duo with 2GB RAM for Windows Vista and a Celeron M with 512MB RAM for Ubuntu 9.04 ...... and Im finding myself using the Celeron more and more and my Core Duo less and less. I really dont know why.

Oh, and I LOVE the orange and brown....goes great with a funky widescreen wallpaper I downloaded for my Ubuntu desktop.

I can't stomach the nauseating default orange of Ubuntu. Mark, get some green and blue hues, guy, how about a default kde interface.

What's the problem? just select the clearlooks theme and then no more orange.. there are other non-orange themes too that come standard, so I don't see a problem.

What are you doing in uBuntu that you couldn't find an equivalent and often easier Windows based equivalent for? You know themes have been available for Windows since 98 right?

Is that all? Sorry to hear you didn't use a virus scanner when you used Windows but a bit of pre-caution goes a long way.

haha....don't worry Fudzy, I know there are themes for Windows. I constantly changed my color schemes in Windows 3.1, but was very upset that I had to pay for the Microsoft Plus theme pack in Windows 95.

Just trying something else for a change, its free and I am having a ball.

Can I get cool themes for my winXP config without having to hack any dll files (other than the handful of MS certified themes on the MS site)? I used a program to do that once and it F'd up my system.

We should start worrying, cos we mount flash drives, external hard drives, etc.....which can have a virus. And I just read on Ubuntus web site tonight that it is possible to write a virus for linux.

But yes, I know the main reason for an anti-virus program on linux is to scan the Windows drives you connect to your Ubuntu pc.

Exactly.. I love my ubuntu linux and can't go back to boring windows, everything just works on ubuntu, I don't have a driver disk for my PC like I do for winloser.

Thanks. There are many things I'm willing to pay for when it comes to software, but window dressing (excuse the pun) isn't one of them.

Just had to pay R400 to renew my AVG 8.5 subscription for Windows Vista again. *sigh* Yes, I know there is AVG Free Edition, but theres a reason why its free.

Windows is an excellent operating system, it is just extremely expensive. I do not "love" Ubuntu but I cannot afford anything better and I can get done what has to be done on it.

I feel the same way with one exception. I think windows is a competent OS, not brilliant (that includes Win7). The software available for windows on the other hand is excellent.

That's what really brought me back. The only quality bits of software I could find for Linux were the web browsers and email clients and those were all available for Windows already. The rest were sub par compared to the Windows equivalent.
