Just to clarify what I said on this, its only for a few seconds just after playback is started, it does correct itself.

The processor itself is physically slightly faster, my experience was that it was faster but I have been using the Pace since for 16 months so it will slow down over time.
There's no getting away from the boot up time

That really makes no difference - and I did see that the first time.
If I need to "flinch" every time I fast forward or rewind or press play or whatever, it will bug me no end - a Chinese Water Torture effect will take hold and I would rather just avoid that entire situation.

It is not an acceptable "feature".

The functionality of the UEC box is identical to that of the Pace Box (HDD size, number of tuners etc) however bare in mind that they are made by two different companies and as far as I know they use difference CPU's. This explains why the UEC box has better performance. For the most part my decoder sits in the TV cupboard out of sight, and I'd far rather have a faster decoder which makes my viewing experience less painful than a pretty box which takes longer to respond to my commands.. (not arguing the point that UEC box could still look better)

I also recall that the Pace box had a huge number of issues when it was first launched but those have been gradually resolved by Over the Air software updates, I'm sure it won't be long before the Video Glitch issue is resolved by UEC as well and then it's going to be purely a matter of looks and performance.

I still lean more towards performance :D
 
It's really no good comparing the "better performance" to that of the old HD PVR decoder, which is to say the least, is still pathetic.

It doesn't explain why the same Pace decoder used in Oz on their networks performs acceptably, whereas our version of the software on the same box is a joke.

Frankly, the current Pace box even with it's OTA updates still has a huge number of issues lurking there.

I note (from the UEC brochure) that the PVR may include the following:

1. eSATA connection for HDD expansion;
2. USB ports; and
3. Ethernet.

I say 'may' because, as the brochure, says: the final product may vary according to specific requirements.

Given that the original decoder's USB ports never functioned 'due to copyright issues' any idea if the the new hardware will be included/operational ? :confused:
 
Another thing to note is that the UEC model supports native 1080p while the Pace only supports 720p.
Useful to remember if you consider the long-term usability.

Don't forget that MC are likely to unlock these features as time goes on.
It's all to do with marketing. Why give you everything today when we can get more money by giving it to you in bite-size pieces?

It's like the cellular market. We're always 3 or 4 generations behind what is currently possible but only so that they can milk us for longer.

MC are not alone in that regard.

I might be wrong with this, but I don't remember MC ever unlocking the existing USB port ...
 
I honestly doubt MC will ever unlock any of the things like USB, eSATA, Ethernet....

They don't have the ability to see just how it could benefit them.
 
Well just remember that if at any point in the future, they DO unlock them, you heard it here first. ;)

Super 5 Media are our only hope from the MultiChoice scum.
 
Has no one noticed that the UEC box supports 1080p playback, whereas the Pace only supports max 1080i?
This could be a bonus if down the line Monochoice does actually start broadcasting in 1080p (highly unlikely tho)
 
Its beyond unlikely in the next 5 years I reckon.....

We have more chance of piggs flying than MC broadcasting a 1080p signal
