UEC DStv HD PVR now available

Gosh, people are really fixated on 1080p.
I have yet to see anybody consistently noticing a difference between 720p and 1080p pictures on screens smaller than 50".

Guess the marketing BS for "Full HD" has worked a treat...

This much is entirely true...

But rather than get into that argument with people again, I just tell them that MC won't broadcast 1080p anytime soon.... its easier.

Read the article again. The cheaper one is still on its way - with 2 tuners.

I read the article again thanks. You misunderstood my point. What makes you think they going to keep their promise this time. You mean i must wait another 4 months to find out. You must be stupid. Once bitten twice shy.

Nobody said that the decoder coming out now was the cheaper one. We all knew it was the similar spec UEC box, with the other one following later. You must be the stupid one, not the other guy.

They subsidise the decoders. Payed for by a much larger subscriber base...

Nevertheless, the full price is ÂŁ199 (R 2 326.88). That is still cheaper than Multichoice's. :wtf:

"One ÂŁ49 box per household and not available if you already have SkyHD/Sky+HD box or if you take a Sky+ box at the same time. Sky+HD box up to ÂŁ199 if you are not eligible for discounted price (Sky TV and HD Pack subscriptions required)."

When the PACE HD decoder from Multichoice was released it was on a special for R 2500, then suddenly they cranked it up to R 2999, this Christmas they made a big fuss that it is now available at an "unbeatable" R 2699. They really love playing subscribers around.

Errr, no, it generally sat at around R3999.00 for the whole of 2009 :twisted::twisted:

Sorry my bad, I am the stupid one. Apologies to Tarzan, I didn't mean to call you stupid. I just read the article here:

http://mybroadband.co.za/news/Telecoms/9690.html

The cheaper one is stil to come apparently. (If we are to believe what DSTV say).

If it's the same price, why bother? Are they saying the PACE is crap, or is it because they are still battling to get the bugs out? (maybe they can buy it cheaper because it's kaaaaak!)

No, they're just bringing "redundancy" into their supplier chain.

The Pace is not crap, and the UEC one is probably not either. The software the MC have written is crap.

It's my guess MC just used PACE as a second supplier in principle to show UEC who's boss!

The USB port on the PVR is irritating. I believe UEC put it in as a 'technical' forethought to give MC flexibility, but MC's marketing dept either lacked the imagination or the willpower to think up a use for it. In any event, the decoder content is all encoded so uses for it could either be to upload content onto the decoder to play (very useful but new TV's come with a USB port anyway) or to store encoded content offline.

Any ideas where I can get a UEC HD PVR ? I don't want the Pace because of the poor RF output - I will be watching the RF output most of the time.
