To me, a spotlight appears to be the simplest explanation. You know Occam's razor and all that: Among competing hypotheses, the one with the fewest assumptions should be selected.

Also, can the green colour of the light be explained by reflection of the moon?
 
A lot of clubs in Joburg use to use those spotlights to attract people from far away. Can't remember the names but that ones that were closed down in Centurion and Midrand use to often use it.

spotlight with green gel filter (pin spot, the very same as used by aircraft)

Not everything is a freaking spotlight, as i said Atmospheric Phenomena, in this case possibly a Light Pillar.

Next to the common pillar shape, observers standing close to a bright light source have reported tear-drop and circular reflections close to the zenith.

Interesting how people here think calling something a UFO means aliens and conspiracy theories :rolleyes:
Just FYI the U stands for Unidentified, so if you see a green light in the sky and you're not able to say what it is, it's a UFO - even if it's a spotlight or drone, until it's properly identified it's still a UFO.
