UFO sighting above Cape Town

Interesting how people here think calling something a UFO means aliens and conspiracy theories
Just FYI the U stands for Unidentified, so if you see a green light in the sky and you're not able to say what it is, it's a UFO - even if it's a spotlight or drone, until it's properly identified it's still a UFO.

Only, it's possibly/probably not even a flying object.

What does the F stand for - flying

Do spotlights fly?

Has it been positively identified as a spotlight? If not then it's a UFO since it appears to be flying.

Once it's confirmed to be a spotlight then it's obviously no longer a ufo as it's no longer unidentified nor flying

Yes.

Like I said earlier: Among competing hypotheses, the one with the fewest assumptions should be selected.

Point proven.

What point was proven? My point still stands. Until it's confirmed to be a spotlight it's a UFO.
Now that is has been positively identified as a spotlight, it's obviously no longer a ufo as it's no longer unidentified nor flying.

Among competing hypotheses, none should be selected until evidence has been gathered.

I agree, but until this can be done, as is the case now, it makes even less sense to argue for the hypotheses with more assumptions. This is what many earlier posters were doing. They've been proven wrong.

Also, I'm sure what most people mean with UFO (an alien spaceship) and what you understand under the term (any phenomena not yet identified or explained) differ widely. What we were saying earlier is that this is not a UFO as in the first definition (an alien spaceship). We were right.

i think what sherbang failed to grasp in his breathless attempt to correct everyone's comprehension, is that all were taking the piss about little green men in glass domed flying saucers hovering in the skies above cape town & lying in wait for an opportunity to beam up the zille / erinreich / fransman / antiganda / malema / de lille / and "probe" them
