Lacks what? I love mine and with Ver 3.0 installed there's really no reason for me to want to upgrade to this years model.
The utterly
stellar build quality of the 2G.
When I 1st got my 3G I was very disappointed.
A few of the things I noticed on my one and others are:
1.) Misaligned casing (rough edge where the plastic back meets the bezel), using the phone in darkness and turning it around in my hands, light actually spills out of the gap from some angles.
2.) Misaligned LCD - looking at the screen in direct sunlight you can see where the 'active' part of the LCD ends, this is not unusual but in the case of my one this section is thicker on one side... its not noticeable in daily use but once you do spot it, it will irk.
3.) Plastic is an overall downgrade - running my fingers over the SIM card slot I can feel indentations and rough edges around it (lint gets caught there too from time to time), the 2G is smooth as a pebble all the way around. Plastic also takes scratches far quicker than the metal would.
4.) The camera lens on the curve of the back of the 3G was a mistake. It takes a beating there and mine has a gouge right across it from the plastic; over the little silver bezel - into the lens. The 2G is twice as old and still immaculate.
I understand that the plastic is a trade off for the GPS radio but it is simply not as well made on top of that. Whenever I pick up the 2G that my wife has now claimed I always get that feeling of: "Yea,
that's it!"
I really hope they find a way back to the metal casing, failing that - the plastic version needs to be a little sturdier, finished better.
Obviously all IMO - I reckon if you'd never had the 2G you be blissfully ignorant.
EDIT: I agree that OS3.0 is a little sluggish, I'm certain that 3.1 will address this issue - it went that way with OS2.
