Feeling a bit of purgatory here... 2G was a perfect build but only EDGE; 3G is a crud build but 3G but bad battery life and a little sluggish on OS3.0; 3GS is 3G/Fast/Good battery life but may catch on fire.

It may turn out that Apple has shot itself in the foot with the 'multiple iteration' strategy and we end up with a plethora of permutations on the theme... not one of them combining all of the winning ingredients, that would be a shame now would'nt it?

Kinda ticked off if this is true of the 3GS as I was hoping to snap one up ASAP.

a) Some faulty batteries enter the system.
b) Buyers suddenly switch around and HATE the brand/company with every fiber of their being, vowing never to buy that brand again etc. etc. Instead of just accepting that modern manufacturing is filled with complexity and high frequency and that "black swans" and faults occur quite regularly (willfully ignoring the fact that Apple's phone swap system is second to none)
c) iHaterz all gather in troops and assemble into a giant ball of pettiness while uttering the words "haha" in a dumbfounded voice of misplaced hate against an entity that doesn't truly exist per se, but still manages to make them feel unrespected when the masses don't drool as much over their specific choice in technology... aah, what a futile predicament this is.

I dont see anyone going the 'hater' route per se... what concerns me is the apparent constant decline in quality.

The 2G was a shining example of astonishing industrial design and outstanding build quality.
The 3G... well lets just say it lacks that.
The 3GS... looks like the problems could be more than just skin deep.

Other than rouguemats retarded comment, I didn't pick up any haters, I think the facts were just being laid out, there is a obvious problem with the phone which needs to be addressed. I love my iPhone, but sure as hell don't want a heater when I upgrade to the s :D

'tis no concern of mine, if there really is a giant problem they'll have no other choice but to fix it (something in the line of what MS has done with the Xbox360 RROD problem)...as far as build quality goes, this is their 3rd attempt in a relatively small amount of time and if there are too many problems they'll probably change their products. The simple fact remains that the iPhone footprint is simply too deep now for a major negative change towards the product itself, so any problems will simply have to be resolved. As for the 3GS, well my 3G is working just fine and I wasn't planning on getting the 3GS anyway, to those who do it would probably be wise to keep an eye out as to the extent of the problem and simply skip this version of the phone if need be, or just make sure you know about the problem and change the phone if need be. This almost reminds me of all the apparent issues people had with the phone's crappy comm. chip in the beginning, I haven't seen or heard from any of those types of problems again.

[EDIT] The fact is that almost all newer smarthphones suffer from similar problems with overheating in certain handsets, just type in "X1 overheat", "Palm Pre overheat" or "Omnia overheat" on Google and you'll always find hits.

Guys, I'm not talking about this thread/forum specifically, but just the internet/world overall, go look at the comments on some of the sites reporting this and you'll see what I mean.

Lacks what? I love mine and with Ver 3.0 installed there's really no reason for me to want to upgrade to this years model.

Aren't you finding OS3 has made your phone sluggish and jittery? Mine has and it is driving me up the wall. :rolleyes:

Not at all - since I un-jailbroke (?) it things have been so much better in terms of reliability/stability.

Hope they sort it out with a future release. (non-Jailbroken is not an option for me, I was born a spineless pirate :cool:)
