Hey guys. I don't know if you have noticed that ultimateedition.info has released their gamers edition.

It was so popular that some of the servers crashed cause it received traffic of 164 download request per second.

Just some info. I have the normal 2.3 x64 installed and its nice. It would be nice if we can get telkom/SAIX , IS or TENEt to make a local mirror for us cause its a really popular distro. Its based on ubunutu but just all the addons installed for you! :)

i emailed saix awhile ago to upload the normal ubuntu ultimate edition on there ftp. but still no reply- when i requested AA3, it was up in 2 days....

I would love to try out the gamers edition, although they just add a bunch of games...

but the new ubuntu 9.10 is coming out in october...

maybe we should just make this a petition thread requesting the ultimate editions 32 and 64bit to be uploaded to saix or is????
 
Yes. To all the new people I would suggest you get Ultimate Edition if you want to use linux for the first time.

Why? Its based on ubuntu it has the option of KDE and Gnome desktop. It is configured for most of the stuff. Example. Wine. No need to configure. its already done when installing it. No tweaks needed. Ohh and it has pretty cool themes. So no need to download them. It has cool wallpapers. For me it was a massive advantage as a new linux user. It really gets you in the linux mood! :-)

Ohh and we need to email SAIX or IS to get this mirrored cause its 2GB + and international downloads only. Unless some 1 makes a torrent and start to help seed it locally? ? ?
 
I'm going to try and host a tracker only on my hosting. So just hang in there.

How are we going to convince them? People asked them for ages already and we are still waiting!

No need. IS has contacted him for a mirror. It seems they are keen on making a mirror for this. However I think that guy scared IS away. Ultimate Edition had their main download server shut down due to high traffic. Here is the conversation that took place.

Before being shutdown, I had already sent out 1/2 a Petabyte this month. I just want you to understand what you are getting into. They will turn the download server back on by my request. I will not request to do so until traffic resumes a normal level. Being on Distrowatch's homepage & Softpedia's linux homepage has thrown 100,000 users a day this way typical traffic is 15,000 a day.

When I put the server back online I would be honored to have you mirror our distro. I will promote you on this forum to moderator this provides you at least 24 hours access to new releases to the public. It also provides you access to the admin / mod section of this board hidden to normal users. I will also set you up a private acct on our "Beta test server", this is where the newest Ultimate Edition will be sitting among other software I am in progress of writing.

There is currently a alpha of Ultimate Edition 2.4 sitting there, Ultamatix 1.8.8 among other things. I do not mind if you download it for your own purposes I just ask that you do not re-distribute it.

All versions typically located in http://downloadue.info/ISO/ You are welcome to mirror without question. I understand it is currently 404 until I put it back online. If you do not want to wait the University of Maryland has most of what I have so does Unixheads.

wel p2p'ing distros aint against the whole open source thing, so why cant IS just upload it to there ftp for us.....
