Unable to view certain websites e.g. Fasthosts

Hi

I'm unable to view certain websites in my browser, no matter what browser I use (Firefox, IE, Chrome or Safari). Mostly these seem to be websites hosted by Fasthosts in the UK, but I have had trouble with some others too. It's as if I can't access a certain network block, namely 213.171.218.xxx

I can ping the domain names in CMD and I get a reply with the ip address, as above. Time = 248ms, and TTL = 246ms.

Doing a tracert gives a less encouraging reply. I get to hop no. 4 and it times out. EG:

I am on Vodacom 3G HSUPA, using a Vodafone B970 router, but I had problems with this even before I changed over to the Vodafone B970 router. Before that I was on a Huawei E630 card, and that gave the same problems.

I have phoned Vodacom 3G support (082 155) and they told me to ipconfig/flushdns in CMD which I did but it didn't help, so they've lodged an error with ADS? I have yet to hear back from them.

Does anyone else have this problem, and has anyone found a solution?

Whats the ref you were given ? i have not come across anyone that has experienced what you are however we need to investigate.

Thanks for your reply. Sorry for my delayed reply - I didn't expect anyone to answer so soon!

I wasn't given a ref by the vodacom help desk representative, but it was around 09h30 on 18/08/2009 that I spoke to him.

I'm in Plettenberg Bay, in the Southern Cape.

Thanks to VodacomData this issue is now resolved. :)

Apparently they found that "according to the logs pulled it shows the TCP connection sending the packets on the unrestricted apn but the packets coming back in to our network from the net block is been stopped."

I'm not sure what they did to resolve this, but perhaps VodacomData can ask the technicians what they did and post it here so that anyone else having this problem can find the solution.

forumites can you open the sites

i cannot open on the internet apn and unrestricted as well as on the work proxy

I went a step further in asking 3 people to test for me on 3 different adsl lines one at a hotel e.t.c they are hanging and coming back with


The webpage "www.host-it.co.uk" cannot be found

The webpage "billing.hostingcontroller.co.uk" cannot be foundDNS error occurred. Server cannot be found. The link may be broke

I can open them fine (Vodacom 3G, SAIX ADSL and IS ADSL) from Cape Town
 
They don't open for me on my 3G data card on the internet APN. It comes up with a 504 gateway timeout.

edit. They work on my Blackberry storm.
