Yep, it is 30GB, my advice is to pay more attention to the adverts and you will see that there are loads of options with ADSL and a non-TelkoDemonopoly ISP, I will be getting a 5GB ISP account with HomeDSL192 [ok it's not broadband, but neither has iBurst been for me], and the total monthly cost of a reliable connection from 2005-08-01: R636.05 - that includes everything, whereas I have to shell out R700 per month for 3GB on iBurst and have the unreliability to go with it, not to mention the nazi-style dictatorship stuff that WBS does so well...
is that straight from telkom?

i'm in the same boat as limnos - can't get ADSL... so i'm stuck with this crap.

But, Shaun promised that they're putting up a tower in Randpark Ridge (which is where I live), so it should get better.

Time will tell, I guess.

Hi, TheYak

I'm also in Randpark Ridge ... Hilary Road.. Where about's you ... PM me...

Tower in BoschKop (tower right behind Rock Cottage aka the RandparkRidge tower) is supposedly due for end July, but I've seen NO implementation yet.

The Linden tower is supposed to help our plight in the near future: should be running before the weekend ;-)

For now, I suggest using an antenna and pointing it towards the Randburg tower...this at least keeps me connected (most of the time).

The bandwidth is from SAIX/Telkomonopoly, and the ISP accounts are from resellers of that bandwidth, if you scroll to the bottom of this page, there is currently an advert there which gives various ISP account options to choose from ;).

Have a look at [post=228303]this thread for more info...[/post]

They indicated to me that they are busy testing it in our Estate (first testing grounds for ADSL over Fibre or something to that effect), and I should hear something by August, which I doubt. Will keep you posted

I am in Midstream Estate ... between Centurion and Midrand. Spoke to a Telkom network specialist buddy of mine a while back, said they are testing it in the Estate, due to the fact that they (Telkom) had to put in about 8km of fibre to get the Estate on the phone grid. So they decided they might as well start testing there, as there is no 'cable interference'

Oh, and for all of you driving past those BIG 'Midrand Estates' signs on the N1 between Centurion and Midrand, where the advertise 24/7 Broadband internet ... think again: my cellphone dial-up is faster :D
