Can somebody at MTN do a Sim swop without having your phone or Sim in their possession?
My phone was offline from Friday to Monday morning when I discovered what was wrong. A call to MTN sorted things by them doing a Sim reset and I then had to reboot my phone. Considering what is happening to FNB customers, I am suspicious.

Skead.

Yes - they just need your phone number and the new SIM card number and they can do it within a few minutes.

They are not supposed to be able to do it, but obviously they can.

EDIT: You would think that by now, after all these years of knowing about this, that the banks and cellphone companies would be on top of this by now.
Seriously, where is the will to stamp out this crime?

There isn't any...

Its money for them, and you have to do the running around to fix it, not them.

It seems there is alot of issues at MTN;

They opening accounts and people don't know about it, then SIM swaps and people don't know about it. It's scary!!!

What scares me is that there is literally no full proof way to protect your money. Even if you don't fall for phishing scams and so on, changes are good you will be struck some time and there is absolutely nothing you can do about it.

check all your financial records ;)
