unblocking blocked ears

Have had blocked left ear since Saturday when I was stupid and fiddled with ear buds.

Last night ran a hot bath and dipped ears below the water every 1min or so, worked on the right ear but left ear still blocked.
Edging closer having to go to the Dr but will try the warm water trick tonight as it worked wonders on my right ear, jeez didn't know it had so much stuff in it.

When it happens to me I put waxol in my ears 2 times a day for 3 days and then go to my local pharmacy and have them do it for me. I think clicks and dischem offer it too. Both times I have been they have required me to put the drops in for a few days prior.

I did the Dr thing. Syringe with lukewarm mixture of water and oil into the ear.
Was great.

Blocked a week later again  Managed to wiggle and whatnot to open it again, but for some reason the one ear stays troublesome.
Ear candles useless as well (tried them before going to the Dr).

When my ear/s get blocked like this, I just leave them. Usually they get unblocked after 14 days or so.

Where did you find the ear candle ? My right ear feels stuffy (a couple of weeks) . Trying olive oil now (nothing is coming out),I hope its not my eustachian tube that is blocked.

I think health shops typically sells them, but honestly I can't say I'd recommend them anymore.
While I anecdotally had some success with them in my younger years, it proved completely useless recently.

I tried had family pour some olive oil in at home, but this too didn't yield results (without a syringe followup).
I've taken to using re-usable in-ear insets from a pharmacy (the little blue ones) while showering and that seems to have stopped any stray drops from causing a buildup - so no more doctor visits for ear'i'gation.

The difference between my own syringe and the Dr's one was definitely size. He's got a large metal one which is capable of a sustained thrust of water which breaks down and loosens the wax. So if you do look to buy one I'd recommend going for as large as you can get - about 2-3 fingers wide reservoir thickness.

Yes, this is actually what a doctor does(He might use a lot bigger syringe). I have been doing it myself for 2 years. Then got a shower head with different settings. Now I just choose the setting that thrusts 1 stream of water into the year about once a month. works like a charm

This is the only good way to clean your ears. Never stick anything in your ears like ear buds.
No, an ENT wont do this. It hasn't been best practice in decades.

They use a small vacuum nowadays and dislodge hard bits with special tools.
Its well worth doing though, quite magic.

Doctor with syringe is the best.
Waxsol is good, i use it. Olive Oil does work but not for very blocked ears as its basically just acting as a solution to loosen the wax and move it out.

Ear candles are hocus pocus like some other products you find out there. They're also notoriously dangerous. Avoid like the plague.

Very effective:

GP can wash your ears out, I just do it myself with a moerse syringe, I've had blocked ear issues for ages, every few months i just flush it myself while i shower, i don't do any sort of earbuds in the ear

you will be VERY surprised at the kak that comes out of your ears, especially you earbud users!
