Uncapped ADSL bandwidth auctioned

...And a single f***ing carrot at a time...Sad company.

I think your dislike of all ISP's other than Afrihost has been fairly well documented in numerous threads, despite proof that Cybersmart have been offering far below R29 / R23 per gig months before the other "revolutionary" ISP's jumped on to the bandwagon.

Its fairly straightforward I think .. if you like the idea .. bid .. if not .. then hey .. no odds .. it doesnt affect me in the least ..

But if I was a 4mb user .. and I got uncapped for 1000 for a month .. I can assure you that Id get my value for money.. somehow that doesnt seem like an overly bad price to me....

Whoever the person is that "won" the 15G toput is, you are a stupid oaf. If you buy 15G topup on the site it would have cost you R575 but you paid R1000

Wakker word...

It's good to see some of these guys trying to do something even if it is only getting press for selling 10 gigs at R45/gig after three days of bidding.

Just do note that our R500 uncapped is not a discounted or loss leading product.

We still argue vehemently amongst ourselves about whether we should launch a R15/gig product, but our philosophy of 'bandwidth not data' usually wins out.

All the other 'big' guys are seriously quiet at the moment. Is that a good thing?

Perhaps you should launch 1 and allow your paying customers decide .. or perhaps you're telling porkies ?

If you think the sa public wouldnt be all over R15/gig in a heartbeat . then you may need to re evaluate your opinion.

It just shows that isp's got extra bandwidth available but try to make the most out of it by auction it or let it go to waste. They should allow their customers a "pool" like telkom did.

They do .. its called night rider .. for every 5 gigs you download in the early morning.. only 1 gig comes off your cap.

South African's generally suck at auctions. Just look at bid or buy. Everything sells for the market price or even more in some cases. There are no bargains available when desperate people display "loss aversion" to their previous winning bids.

Yeah jetlee - chill, not everyone likes a butchered account that can only be used properly sometimes.

About bargains - I just bought two wiimotes and nunchucks for around R300 on ebay - postage to SA included. SA does suck at auctions. Too many desperate people.

I am chilled ... and I having a download manager that automatically schedules my large file downloads is barely butchering ..

but thats off topic .. Im not pro auctions. .. and Im not against them .. fortunately I dont have to bid for my bandwidth every month .. so the auction doesnt affect me in the slightest . and thats my point .. use it dont use it ..

Some guys will pay thousands for 10 gigs .. some wont unless they get unlimited for under 1k .. its up to the individual .. and at least thats a choice .. for the individual.

Not butchered, just clever. I get around 23 GB from my cybersmart account with nightrider for roughly R426 which works out at R18.50/GB.
Not too shabby ;)

I could of course decrease that to R8.52/GB if I decided to do all my downloading during "nightrider" times :)

so the "If you buy 15G topup on the site it would have cost you R575". If you're a serious hardcore downloader you can get 75GB out of that.. comes to R7.67 per GB!

But myBB has had this conversation over and over again. People wont pay R18.50 per GB because of the "we are the only ISP" clause of cybersmart.

Auctions - not a good idea unless people actually get goo deals - but I'll never use it as I'd rather have something I dont have to gamble on to get it.

Uncapped ADSL bandwidth auctioned off

Local ISP launches ADSL auctions where consumers bid on spare bandwidth capacity

this is even more bizarre than the whole beet root and garlic episode. in RSA one can always find a treatment for the symptom rather than an actual fix for the root cause, we surly have some weird and wonderful adsl/cap 'solutions' here...

Absolutely.

The whole only 1 ISP thing has also been covered to death. You can have more than one, just don't fsck them around with help-desk queries if you stuff up your settings with the other account. Otherwise it's fine.

I only use cybersmart now in any case so it doesn't bother me, although all these new uncapped offerings are seriously making me consider otherwise...only time will tell though.

with pricing getting as low as it is currently whats the point in auctions like this,
Guy who is paying R1125 for the month uncapped is getting ripped off already comsidering current specials.

How do you figure that exactly...? (assuming this is a 4mb uncapped account)

+1

If another ISP offered around R15/gig (as suggested by DigiChilli) Id have to consider jumping ship too ... Loyalty is overrated .. prices speak volumes.
