Uncapped ADSL now the norm: MWEB ISP CEO Derek Hershaw

I would think you bypassed their rules no?

I also thought something was up but they confirmed telephonically for 'abuse'. I rechecked their Acceptable Use Policy and it mentions something about 'You may not use service for unattended automated operation, unless otherwise agreed.' So there goes any form of download unless you're always stationed at your PC.

As far as I know the only things that will get Mweb on your case are persistent months of extreme usage (450GB+) and VPN and https connections. Does this apply to you? I've been using a torrent-to-http service for over a year with minimum monthly usage around 250GB and maximum just over 500GB. Haven't heard a squeak from Mweb.

Also doing mainly torrents on my side. I tried a VPN connection but gave up on the first day as I experienced login problems. This was 2 months ago. I don't monitor the line as extensively though I do think it would be over 300-400GB, can't really confirm entirely. It may possibly be excessive abuse but then handle it tastefully. Maybe 500GB is the benchmark to work comfortably against then.

How do you find the time to watch all you download?

How do you find the time to watch all you download?

I get around to watching what I download not long after, unless it's not for me. Some people do download anything they can find that remotely interests them though, without a hope of watching it all in their lifetime.

How do you find the time to watch all you download?

I think you will find that most people with uncapped accounts are downloading for their entire families viewing and several other friends also.
so yeah, it's not about only what the downloader watches. It's about what ten or so different people want to watch.
In that sense downloading becomes extremely cost effective for multiple people.

These are my transfer stats.. pretty much night time downloading only.
It is not counting my daytime usage.

I'm sure that's pretty average these days for guys who are on uncapped.

The point is... what this proves is that families are now getting the majority of their entertainment from the Internet Directly and bypassing all other sources. If we had a Hulu or Netflix service in SA, I would be spending my money on an unlimited plan from them rather than a Newsgroup service.

How do you find the time to watch all you download?

Been a little busy here, been watching some series ;)

The ironic thing is, I have downloaded most of what I wanted so I wouldn't need to keep the connection running continuously. I do feel that if we all had TRUE uncapped, with unshaped and without all the funny things they introduce to cap a person indirectly, one does run out of things to download.

I don't do the downloading for everyone bit, you lend a hand and they take the whole arm.
