Uncapped ADSL pricing comparison

No OW?

Also, a straight price comparison doesn't really help much imo. Things like AUP etc make a big difference in cost/benefit. Esp when the products are priced within a couple of rands within each other anyway, then other things matter more.

Can't mybb set up a test station of sorts where each product is tested for say 7 days non-stop. e.g. Latency check & speed test every 2 mins. Then weigh the prices by the outcomes of that testing. Preferably with additional penalties for high std deviations & max deviations. NB would have to be a 100% clean line with nothing else running, no NTP updates, windows updates etc.

+1

But I don't know if 7 days is enough. Maybe 7 days per protocol, although all I care for is torrents. Of course web and email need to run perfectly at all times, no matter what.

Then there's the bundles. You need to do a bundle comparison. And the MAFIAA letters - one of the big reasons I'm with Telkom is because they don't forward those letters. Very important if you're a dedicated pirate.

since when did MWEB drop its 4Mbps uncapped DATA ONLY price to R359? Is this not the throttled account?

It is which is why Havoc has a valid point of pure price comparison being meaningless. Most myBB's know that uncapped is now in bands ( entry , mid tier , high-end ) and that all relates to FUP, AUP, connections and some even time limits.

Gone are the days when a simple comparison was enough to make a decision.

I think the mweb 4meg price was a typo. AFAIK its R539 and not R359

So let's just leave Openweb out.... no need to publish a article that actually does a real comparison.

Well done MyBB.

I also think it would be nice to see the type of comparison requested by Havoc. As someone who have used a 56K dial-up connection and thereafter switched to 3G broadband, it would be interesting also to get Telkom to abandon their compulsory voice line rental. This would be a real reason for me to switch to ADSL broadband. :)

Why no OW? I'm paying half the price of the MWEB and Afrihost 1mbps accounts on OW Vanilla 1mbps and it outperforms the uncapped accounts I've had from those other two.

The table should include the 'premium' MWEB offering. Or is there an article on 'premium' uncapped adsl in the works

have to agree with the above.

uncapped is not truly uncapped ( unless you look at the business offerings where they allow 24x7 usage of a line.)

and then on the other hand -its difficult to say on which "usage" patterns a test should conform?

eg - will someone say an average 0f 20% linux distros in a month via usenet, 30% via torrents, another 10% of skype etc? - the possibilities and combinations is endless.

have to agree that capping / throttling an account to less than 20% of line speed after exceeding a weekly amount is not the best way to go (there is cases where a a large amount of data is required - although not for home use.)

guess its better to follow the last sentence of the article - try before you buy the cheapest...

I was about to say this. I want to know what the AUP is. Uncapped != Uncapped in SA.
