So I'm looking at the cheapest uncapped, which looks to be the 384 Uncapped from Screamer @ R399.
Questions before I get this product.

1. Is it consistent? As in will I get 45KB/s the entire time throughout? No throttling?
2. Is it shaped or unshaped?
3. Will I get my full line speed (I have 4mbps) during the night? Like Axxess or will it stay 45KB/s?

Thanks.. I don't think I can live with these speeds, let alone cap after coming back from Korea, I NEED uncapped :P

Check this thread, http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?207432-Screamer-ADSL

but to answer:

1. No it's not consistent [or rather it is less consistent than Telkom ISP] . You should look at 30-35 KB/s average .
2. Shaped
3. No, 384 is max you will ever get on that package.

So it's still pretty much a capped option [speed being the cap] .

You need to calculate a few things, how much can you actually download on a line going at 35 KB/s average? How much would you practically download ?

It does not help alot to have a 4 MB line and then you can't stream any movies because you're throttled to 384 kbps.

In my case, i have a 384 line, so this package does not negate my line...but i'd prolly look for other options if i had a 4 MB line.

1. No, i have used it for 3 months on and off...and no there is no speed guarantee :(
2. Shaped (To death) although they say p2p is allowed, but i average about 15K if i'm lucky (Even at night)
3. No, you will be throttled to 384k all the time, regardless of the time.

My opinion: Don't waste your time with Screamer uncapped, they use a Private IP network, and speeds are sometimes un-usable.

Rather get a high cap usage from Afrihost Here -> (http://www.afrihost.com/adsl-power-high-bandwidth.php)
They have a 50GB package for R1400, and a 100GB for R2900.
A lot more than the R399 from Screamer but you're guaranteed to have 4Mb/s most of the time.

Well if you're gonna pay R1500 for 50Gb (or R2900 for anything) , then you might as well look at 1 MB/s or 4 MB/s uncapped solutions. Screamer have those too...cant comment on that though.

The advantage of the Afrihost options are the R30 p/GB tag, you can use 10GB one month and only pay R300, and 50GB another month and pay R1500 (pay as you go). Where uncapped solutions are a fixed rate, whether you actually download enough or not. But as i said, if i paid R1500 or R3000 EVERY MONTH , then i would look for an uncapped solution.

Bare in mind that most SA ISP's have a 5day or 10day rolling threshold.
So if you reach 5 gigs in 5 days they will throttle you.
Check your fine print before you sign an uncapped solution...

why dont u get saol uncap for 499 that they advertised? (inc 384 line rental)
saw on forum their line is stable etc
